Sony announces their lineup of titles accompanying the U.S. release of their new handheld.
Just before the holiday weekend, Sony provided a rundown of the titles available launch day and during the weeks following the February release of the PS Vita hardware. According to the Playstation blog, 25 titles will be available on launch day with prices ranging from $9.99 to $49.99. All titles will be available for download, but not retail, so start familiarizing yourself with Sony's online store.
Here's the list of first-party titles arriving at launch:
Escape Plan (PSN Only)
Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational
Hustle Kings (PSN Only)
Little Deviants
ModNation Racers: Road Trip
Super StarDust Delta (PSN only)
UNCHARTED: Golden Abyss
wipEout 2048
No huge surprises there, although I'd like to state for the record how nice it is to have another Wipeout title on the way. Sony seems to be going to conservative route with their first-party offerings in terms of generating new IP, and while that's a little disappointing, you can't accuse them of embracing the strategy which goes something like "if they liked it on the PS3, they'll like it on the PS Vita."
And making up the balance are these third-party titles:
Army Corps of Hell (Square Enix, Inc.)
Asphalt Injection (Ubisoft, Inc.)
BEN10 GALACTIC RACING (D3 Publisher of America)
Blazblue: Continuum Shift EXTEND (Aksys Games Localization, Inc.)
Dungeon Hunter Alliance (Ubisoft, Inc.)
Dynasty Warriors Next (Tecmo Koei America Corporation)
F1 2011 (Codemasters)
EA SPORTS FIFA Soccer (Electronic Arts, Inc.)
Lumines Electronic Symphony (Ubisoft, Inc.)
Michael Jackson The Experience (Ubisoft, Inc.)
Plants vs. Zombies (PSN Only, Sony Online Entertainment LLC)
Rayman Origins (Ubisoft, Inc.)
Shinobido 2: Revenge of Zen (Namco Bandai Games America Inc.)
Tales of Space: Mutant Blobs (PSN Only, Drinkbox Studios)
Touch My Katamari (Namco Bandai Games America Inc.)
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 (Capcom Entertainment, Inc.)
Virtua Tennis 4: World Tour Edition (Sega of America)
Ubisoft seems to be the company ready to support the Vita right out of the gate, accounting for five of the 25 releases during launch, including a new Lumines puzzler. Note the lack of representation by Activision with no titles in the launch lineup and only one from EA. Maybe they're waiting to start rolling out their releases a little later in the year?
The remaining launch window titles are:
LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 (Warner Bros. Interactive Ent. Inc.)
Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention (NIS America, Inc.)
NINJA GAIDEN ? PLUS (Tecmo Koei America Corporation)
Ridge Racer (Namco Bandai Games America Inc.)
Silent Hill Book of Memories (Konami Digital Ent. America, Inc.)
Supremacy MMA: Unrestricted (505 Games)
There will also be a slew of accessories available at launch. Most of them actually come out Feb. 15th alongside the PS Vita First Edition Bundle, but we'll have to wait until spring for a couple.
