Hack 'N Slash 'Lollipop Chainsaw' Gets Box Art

Posted 12/15/11 10:37 am EST by Charles Webb in News, PS3, Video, Warner Bros., Xbox 360

Truth in advertising from Suda51, Grasshopper, and WB Interactive.

I'm not a huge fan of the art here which doesn't really do service to the garish, crazy imagery of the game, but here it is, the cover to one of my most anticipated titles of 2011, Lollipop Chainsaw.

Whatever else you might think about the latest from Grasshopper Manufacture's latest, the evocatively-titled it's not afraid to go big. The zombie hack and slash from the No More Heroes and Killer 7 developer is crazy with zombie splatter, garish filters, cussing baddies, fan service, and sparkly hearts.

Grasshopper CEO Suda 51 is at the helm of this one, bringing along the same referential, winking tone that he injected into his previous titles. Grasshopper games aren't always ones you're necessarily excited about playing so much as experiencing so you can talk about them to other gamers. In this case, it looks like the huge, crazy, boss fight setpieces that were actually pretty cool in No More Heroes will make a return here (I actually think the huge, screen filling text towards the end is a nice touch).

Filmmaker James Gunn is also on board, working on some of the game's story and characters. The Troma alum and Super and Slither director has teased that some of the regular actors from his films might be lending their voice talent to the U.S. release of the game, when it's published by Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment sometime next year.

Lollipop Chainsaw will be released sometime in 2012 on the 360 and PS3.
