'Sonic CD' Available on Xbox 360 and iOS, PS3 And Android Versions Incoming

Posted 12/14/11 2:30 pm EST by Don Hatfield in iPhone / iPad, PC, PS3, Xbox 360

Sega's Sonic CD was originally released in 1993 for the short-lived Sega CD game console and marked the first time gamers were introduced to fan-favorite characters Metal Sonic and Amy Rose. Now, 18 years later Sonic CD has returned as a digital download to remind us just how awesome the lightning-fast blue hedgehog is.

Sonic CD will be available on pretty much any gaming platform whether it be Xbox 360, Playstation 3, iPhone/iPad, Android devices or Mac & PC. The game is pretty much the same as we remember from back in '93, but this time around Sega has added a couple new features that fans are sure to love.

The first new feature is the ability to unlock Sonic's best bud, Tails as a playable character. To do this players must play through and beat the entire game one time, after that Tails is ready to go. The other new feature gives players the option to choose between the game's original Japanese soundtrack or the US version.

“Sonic’s 20th Anniversary has been a banner year for him – as well as for everyone at SEGA,” said Haruki Satomi, Senior Vice President of Digital Business at SEGA of America. “Gamers around the world are rediscovering their love of Sonic through his adventures, new and old. Whether you’re a long-time hedgehog aficionado looking to enjoy a favorite moment from Sonic’s past, or a brand-new player who wants to join in on the fun, there’s no better place to start than with one of Sonic’s most celebrated games, Sonic CD.”

Sonic CD is available now on Xbox 360 for 400MP and iOS for $2.59. The Android version has been delayed until early 2012 and though is is available via the Playstation Network in Europe right now, US fans will have to wait until December 20th. PC, Mac and Windows Phone 7 versions will also be released sometime in 2012.
