See Dante Make His Escape In These Gameplay Trailers For 'Devil May Cry'

Posted 12/9/11 4:00 pm EST by Charles Webb in capcom, PS3, Trailer, Video, Xbox 360

...or more precisely, DmC as developer Ninja Theory and publisher Capcom are calling it.

Good, I think Ninja Theory is keeping the new look for "Prequel Dante." There was a little bit of an Internet furor when Capcom debuted the first teaser for the upcoming prequel to the Devil May Cry series and you would believe that giving the younger incarnation black hair and a more disheveled look in line with a plot that sees him escaping from a mental facility as akin to making the typically stylish, part-demon action hero a full-time accountant and changing the series to, I don't know, a Quicken update.

Or maybe not, but people were kind of ridiculous about the change which brings an interesting reinvention to the character in the new, still-without-a-release-date game from the Heavenly Sword developers.

The latest gameplay trailers, "Escape" and "Demon City Combat" show off the new game in action, and hey, Dante seems to play just like Dante. Actually, it looks like a bit of the "grab and attack" action from Devil May Cry 4 has made its way into the prequel, although at this stage the combat doesn't quite look as fluid as previous entries of the series. But it's still early, so these impressions could be premature. We also get glimpses of some of the game's gunplay, as well as Dante's sword and scythe.

The most interesting thing about both trailers is that we get to see the conceit of the new game play out a bit as Dante is dragged back and forth between what must be the "real world" and Limbo where all the monsters you'll get to kill currently reside. The other interesting thing is that Dante apparently has a currently unnamed companion who seems to be helping him survive the city.

Anyway, I hope we hear more about DmC soon, and finally get a release date sometime in the near future.
