'Mass Effect 3' Bringing Back Cut 'Mass Effect 2' Missions

Posted 11/30/11 5:30 pm EST by Charles Webb in News, PC, PS3, Xbox 360

It looks like the slight delay into March of the release of Mass Effect 3 is being put to interesting use: according to an OXM interview with the game's lead writer, Mac Walters, developer Bioware is restoring missions left on the virtual cutting room floor from the last game that will return Shepherd to the Citadel, one of the key locations from the first game.

From Walters: "There was a Mass Effect 2 plot that was a kind of callback to the first Mass Effect that was going to be on the Citadel, and we cut it. But now it's made a resurrection in Mass Effect 3, so I'm happy, but I can't say what it is. That's the nice thing about trilogies, sometimes you get a second chance."

Mass Effect 2 saw your access to locations in the Citadel somewhat restricted with only a couple of missions and the Kasumi DLC allowing you to roam around the inactive mass relay-turned space station, so it seems the Bioware team are looking to remedy that with a little more time in the multi-species space station whose origins tie into some of the many mysteries at the heart of the series. How this will tie into the promised Earth invasion in the second sequel remains to be seen, however.

Mass Effect 3 will be available on the PC, PS3, and 360 March 6th.
