Not only is the classic Belgian comic making its 3D debut on the big screen courtesy of Stephen Spielberg and Peter Jackson, but it's coming to the small 3D screen as well in December from Ubisoft. Here's hoping it's more Jurassic Park for the Genesis and less Pter Jackson's King Kong.
Now that I'm seeing that there's a Tintin game on the way, I'm actually kind of surprised that it took so long for someone out there to realize that this boy reporter/adventurer was about due for a video game adaptation. Seriously, he's a kid who travel the globe (and once into outer space) solving mysteries and occasionally punching Nazis and the like in the nose (and sometimes worse--Tintin comics were crazy with dead people, both good and evil).
But someone in the great big nexus of media synergy figured that with The Adventures of Tintin coming to theaters in a great big mo-cap 3D extravaganza helmed by Steven Spielberg (and co-produced by Peter Jackson), maybe it was about time. The film, which is getting a December 21st release here in the U.S., features mo-cap and voice performances by Jaimie Bell (King Kong, Billy Elliott), Andy Serkis (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Lord of the Rings), and Daniel freakin' Craig in a new story penned by current Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat and Attack the Block writer Joe Cornish, and Shaun of the Dead director Edgar Wright.
The 3DS game, aptly titled The Adventures of Tintin: The Game, revisits locations from the movie (although it's unclear whether it'll touch on the plot or simply be a side story). Tintin will feature both single and multiplayer gameplay although the press release is weirdly circumspect about calling it the platformer that it so clearly looks like. Ubisoft would like you to know, however, that the game "offers a unique blend of exploration, puzzles and combat. It also includes exotic gameplay elements such as sword fighting, aerial combat and driving."
The Adventures of Tintin: The Game is coming to the 3DS on December 6th.
