It looks like the slight delay into March of the release of Mass Effect 3 is being put to interesting use: according to an OXM interview with the game's lead writer, Mac Walters, developer Bioware is restoring missions left on the virtual cutting room floor from the last game that will return Shepherd to the Citadel, one of the key locations from the first game.
From Walters: "There was a Mass Effect 2 plot that was a kind of callback to the first Mass Effect that was going to be on the Citadel, and we cut it. But now it's made a resurrection in Mass Effect 3, so I'm happy, but I can't say what it is. That's the nice thing about trilogies, sometimes you get a second chance."
Mass Effect 2 saw your access to locations in the Citadel somewhat restricted with only a couple of missions and the Kasumi DLC allowing you to roam around the inactive mass relay-turned space station, so it seems the Bioware team are looking to remedy that with a little more time in the multi-species space station whose origins tie into some of the many mysteries at the heart of the series. How this will tie into the promised Earth invasion in the second sequel remains to be seen, however.

Mass Effect 3 will be available on the PC, PS3, and 360 March 6th.

I grew up with all of Nintendo's consoles (except Gamecube - I don't want to talk about it) and the thing I hated most was sitting down to play a game only to find a bum cartridge tossing me glitched out screens no matter how many times I blew on it. Needless to say all those bad boys found a new home in the trash, but after seeing what could have been done with them I'm starting to regret it.
The magical artwork you see above is a one-of-a-kind, life-size sculpture commissioned by used games retailer JJ Games. It features Metroid's Samus Aran created entirely out of old Nintendo cartridges from NES, SNES, Gameboy and N64 and it's up for grabs onĀ eBay right now! Read more...

Making the news rounds yesterday from an interview in the Financial Review, George Miller, the director behind the Mad Max films, a stalled CG Justice League movie, and most recently, Happy Feet is partnering with Kennedy Miller Mitchell Interactive, the new home for former Team Bondi and Krome Studios developers to work on Miller's long-in-development Mad Max 4: Fury Road game.
The fairly comprehensive piece looks at Miller's creative output over the last few years and the struggles with getting not only foreign-backed films but games developed in Australia as the fluctuating value of that nation's currency has made outside investment a challenge and was certainly at least indirectly responsible for the collapse of both Krome and Team Bondi as operating entities. Fury Road was originally set to be made at a Swedish developer, but Miller was impressed with Team Bondi's work and tapped members of that team to work on the video game follow-up to "Mad" Max Rockatansky's violent desert adventures in the post-apocalyptic Outback. The film which it's supposed to be accompanying was to start filming last year with Bronson and The Dark Knight Rises star Thomas Hardy in the lead, but unseasonal rains have made the arid wastes of the Outback unexpectedly muddy and green. [Update: not so fast, people. According to Giant Bomb, new bugs may be plaguing the patch including borked magic abilities and backwards-flying dragons. For the time being, you might be better off waiting to download it.]
Tired of pop-in textures, crashes on startup, or just plain annoying performance issues while hacking, slashing, stealing, and doing magic-ing your way through Skyrim? Well, Bethesda's got just the fix for you in their 1.2 patch.

This coming Spring, Ubisoft is giving Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc an HD update on PSN and XBLA.
In this writer's humble opinion, Rayman was one of the very few 2D franchises to cleanly make that early leap into 3D at the end of the 90's and beginning of the last decade. Rayman for the PS1 was one of the finest platformers for Sony's first console and its 3D sequel, Rayman 2: The Great Escape was one of the finest platformers for the Dreamcast way back when we thought Sega would always be in the hardware business. When the new Rainbow 6 drops sometime in 2013, it will have been five long years since the last entry in the tough but generally fun tactical shooter series was on shelves. That's nearly half the lifespan of the current console generation during which this particular type of stop and pop shooter has gone all but unrepresented by most developers, who've stuck with either the cover-based third-person action shooter or the first-person action shooter. Strategy has become what kind of bullet you want to put into the opposition.

Releasing two Mario games within a month of each other is almost unheard of for Nintendo (especially when you sandwich a Zelda game in between), but 3DS owners are treated to their second helping of their favorite plumber and his friends next week when "Mario Kart 7" hits store shelves. Arriving as the last big release of the year, the latest entry into this hallowed franchise updates the game, adds 3D, and some new friends, but is that enough to really make it a must have for this fledgling system?

I'm kind of cagey as stating this as fact, but a leaked photo above from the Lego fan film blog BrickTuts indicates that next year we'll be getting more DC Comics characters in the sequel to 2008's Lego Batman. According to the post, the game is coming next summer with Superman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern joining the cast for the presumably multiplatform game. The post's author, "LegoSantaMoss", states that the image has been revealed, but provides no sourcing of where it comes from, leading me to keeping flashing a big red RUMOR warning all over this thing.

Hope you liked the challenge rooms in Arkham City because it looks like developer Rocksteady is about to give you some more in December. Via their @arkhamcitynews Twitter feed, the team behind a game that we thought was pretty alright have seemingly promised a little more of it with "an all-new Batcave... Joker's Carnival and the Icerberg Lounge." Presumably these will be additional combat and stealth challenge rooms for Batman to do the crimefighting thing in.
Rocksteady's post-release support of the game has been steady, with the recent DLC releases of the Robin and Nightwing characters and challenges. Still, as much as I love the combat in the game, I do wonder if the team has any plans for any additional narrative-based content for the game. While I had some qualms about the storytelling in Arkham City, I really dug a lot of the side missions that involved you hunting down some of the lesser-known villains from Batman's rouge's gallery. Stranger or lesser known characters like Killer Moth, or downright strange ones like Orca might have a chance to shine in the AC, and I, for one, would have a great time hunting them down. Alternately, our time with Two-Face in the game was woefully short and a heavy so vital to Batman's mythology really needed more time in the spotlight--c'mon, Rocksteady, respond to my requests on the Internet!

Not only is the classic Belgian comic making its 3D debut on the big screen courtesy of Stephen Spielberg and Peter Jackson, but it's coming to the small 3D screen as well in December from Ubisoft. Here's hoping it's more Jurassic Park for the Genesis and less Pter Jackson's King Kong.
Now that I'm seeing that there's a Tintin game on the way, I'm actually kind of surprised that it took so long for someone out there to realize that this boy reporter/adventurer was about due for a video game adaptation. Seriously, he's a kid who travel the globe (and once into outer space) solving mysteries and occasionally punching Nazis and the like in the nose (and sometimes worse--Tintin comics were crazy with dead people, both good and evil).
But someone in the great big nexus of media synergy figured that with The Adventures of Tintin coming to theaters in a great big mo-cap 3D extravaganza helmed by Steven Spielberg (and co-produced by Peter Jackson), maybe it was about time. The film, which is getting a December 21st release here in the U.S., features mo-cap and voice performances by Jaimie Bell (King Kong, Billy Elliott), Andy Serkis (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Lord of the Rings), and Daniel freakin' Craig in a new story penned by current Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat and Attack the Block writer Joe Cornish, and Shaun of the Dead director Edgar Wright.
