FROM MTV GEEK:

DC Direct's Batman: Arkham Asylum figures were easily some of the best the company has ever made. The sculpts, paint and even articulation were perfect for the game's twisted visions of Batman and his rogues gallery. It's only fitting (and awesome) that at New York Comic Con DC Direct is showing of a veritable psych ward of action figure monstrosities with their line of figures from the new Batman: Arkham City game!

Capcom’s Street Fighter X Tekken panel at New York Comic Con was on fire yesterday. First they revealed all the details on the new ‘Gem” system, which will turn the casual player into a force to be reckoned with, and then they revealed a new character for the line-up while teasing three more.

Over the years Street Fighter has sadly become a game only played by the longtime, hardcore fans. Casual gamers really aren’t drawn to fighting games like this because of the intense learning curve, but in an attempt to change this Capcom has introduced the gem system.

FROM MTV GEEK:

Steve Jackson Games made gaming news at New York Comic Con this morning by announcing a brand new Munchkin tie-in with Image Comic's Skullkickers, set for release in 2012.

Skullkickers is a fantasy-comedy comic book series billed as "two hard-headed mercenaries who kill monsters and cause havoc in their search for money, fame and adventure." That sounds like a match made in heaven when thrown into the Munchkin universe. The story of Skullkickers aims to take Dungeons and Dragons-inspired fantasy adventure and inject it with the same type of humor seen in Army of Darkness, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Hellboy.

New York Comic Con: The Batman: Arkham City panel members were greeted by the jam-packed  hall as world-conquering rockstars. Rightly so! Since Batman: Arkham Asylum took gamers by storm (and surprise) in 2009, gamers and Batman fans alike have been waiting as patiently as a cop on stakeout for the Arkham City follow-up. Judging by the overwhelming praise already being heaped upon the title (Metacritic score of 92!) the gang at Warner and Rocksteady may have exceeded expectations.

The world of licensed superhero video games before Arkham Asylum was Bludhaven-dreary. The rule of thumb was any such game was sure to be rushed-out-the-door crapola, seemingly made by people who didn't “get” the superhero in question.

If you're a gamer in this city this weekend, here is your must-do checklist:

Get your D&D Neverwinter Saga books signed by author R. A. Salvatore

Earlier this month, long-time D&D author R. A. Salvatore continued the tale of his most popular character, Drizzt Do'Urden, with the release of the second book in the Neverwinter Saga. Dead Rising 2: Off The Record

"Dead Rising 2" fixed a lot of the problems that gamers had with the original "Dead Rising," as well as added numerous improvements that left fans wanting more. However, there was one key thing missing from the "DR2": Frank West. The hardened photojournalist that survived the Willamette Mall outbreak had won the hearts of fans, but was left out of his own game's sequel. While Frank's absence didn’t detract from the overall enjoyment that "Dead Rising 2" offered, his people pleaded for his return, and in "Dead Rising 2: Off The Record" their prayers are answered.

Oh, you guys... guys. I would pay good money for a polished, cross-country racing game based on the classic* Cannonball Run. For the time being, it looks like the closest we'll get is the Blackbox-developed Need For Speed: The Run, coming to consoles in November.

This is one of those years where EA publishes a NFS where you spend time outside the car doing stuff and typically--I'm gonna be honest here--that's never really the best part. This time around, you're in the shoes of Jack, a guy who has to race cross-country from San Francisco to New York with a $25 million prize on the line. Apparently, this will add in some elements of Hot Pursuit, with your character not only tangling with other racers, but cops and crooks who want to take you out before the finish line.

The Penny Arcade Expo may be long over, but one of its marquee events has just been posted online for your viewing pleasure. Fans of the Penny Arcade webcomic need no introduction, but for the uninitiated, know that its creators like to occasionally play a little Dungeons & Dragons. Sometimes, thousands of fans gather in person to watch them do so live on stage. The end result is a group of gamers giving you more laughs over a game of D&D than even a prime-time sitcom can deliver.

Still no word on the much-anticipated Azrael character skin and the challenger where he smacks around the 90’s.

Think there’s a chance you’ll max out your fun splitting skulls and solving the mysteries as Batman in developer Rocksteady’s upcoming Batman: Arkham City? Well, fret not, because come November, you’ll be able to take the fight to the criminal underworld with the November 1 Nightwing and November 22 Robin DLC packs which will let you play as the current and former sidekicks in the game’s existing challenge maps, while adding new skins for both characters.

Nathan Drake braves the desert in this gameplay video and Associate Producer Victor Harris teases some big moments from Naughty Dog's latest.

Oh, man, it gets said all the time and it's still not said enough: Naughty Dog's character animations are some of the best in the industry. In the gameplay video below, we're shown the Uncharted 3 protagonist in a brief, scripted section dragging himself through the desert.

Check out that body language, the way his shoulders are set, the way he carries himself with exhaustion and thirst. That's some good virtual acting, right there. Better yet, check out how loose his limbs are when he's running, like all of the strength has been sapped out of them. While the Uncharted games might be known for their puzzles and traversals, I think the real mark they're going to leave on this console generation is in character animation and voice work.
