Zelda weapon crafting

Upgrading equipment has always been in "Zelda" games, but "Skyward Sword" will take the concept much further. Some months ago we had learned that, for the first time, Link will be able to craft upgrades for his weapons using items collected from enemies. It's a mechanic that's been used in games like "Monster Hunter" and "Dragon Quest" and now it's coming to Hyrule.

The video below shows crafting in action:

3DS

We learned last week that the rumors were true about the 3DS getting a second analog stick via a bulky attachment. The attachment first appeared in the pages of Famitsu, a Japanese gaming magazine. Now Nintendo has come forth with details on how and when the attachment will be made available, at least for Japan.

Jetpack Joyride

"Jetpack Joyride" has remained a constant presence on my iPad and iPhone since it launched last week, and now it seems the developer, Halfbrick Studios, has given fans of Barry Steakfries another reason to return to the addictive survival game.

Most iOS games have a first update which rectifies small bugs here and there. The first "Jetpack Joyride" update does this, too, but it also adds a handful of new unlockables to the mix.

GameStop, and any other brick-and-mortar entertainment retailer for that matter, have to be scrambling to prepare for the future. The company has already started initiatives to sell downloadable-content in-store via pre-paid cards and codes; not to mention their acquisition of digital gaming distribution sites like Kongregate and Impulse. Apparently, the retailer is also looking to tap into the profitable mobile market by selling an GameStop-branded Android tablet.

It's really easy to make trailers for "Skryim" look pretty. After all, the new engine makes for some pretty gorgeous environments and character models. The problem with most trailers, though, is that they don't really capture what it's like to play the game. "The Elder Scrolls" franchise is almost exclusively cut scene free, so seeing snappy previews with quickly-edited shots isn't much help at all. What is helpful is raw gameplay footage, and that's what we've gotten from Bethesda today.

Double Fine's "Trenched" is one of my favorite games so far this year. Its blend of tower-defense and intense co-op action had me going back to the well more than a fe times this summer, but after playing through the campaign a few times – well, you want something more. Thankfully, Brad Muir and the rest of the Double Fine crew are planning to release more Mobile Trench Brigade action soon, just under a different name.

Star Fox 64 3D
Review by Brian Phares

It's happening all over again. I'm ten years old and I'm going over to my friend Shane Apperson's house to play "StarFox 64" with him. We've been working our way through the missions, trying to figure out all of the alternate routes. Neither of us have the Internet so our only source of information is trial and error and the local rumors spreading around the schoolyard. Wait that can't be right, it's 2011 and I'm sitting in my bed playing a 3DS by myself. This ultimately is the best feature of "StarFox 64 3D": Nostalgia.

Long before he waxed hyperbolic on stage at various gaming events, and even before Lionhead Studios was producing "Fable" games, Peter Molyneux was the co-founder of a small studio called Bullfrog. While the "Populous" series would launch the company to fame – including an Electronic Arts takeover – Molyneux was also a producer on the 1993 tactical game "Syndicate." There have been rumors of a new "Syndicate" title for over a year, but EA officially announced today that Starbreeze Studios are working on a "reinvented" version of the game.

Gears of War 3

Microsoft's biggest exclusive of the year, "Gears of War 3," is finally hitting stores next Tuesday, and to celebrate the event, the company has a few midnight shindigs planned across the globe featuring giveaways, celebrity guests and, predictably, a lot of game stations.

Slowing down, taking time to smell the roses and enjoy the little time we have on this planet really is a great way to live your life. Of course, that just makes the wait until October, and subsequently the release of "Battlefield 3," seem even longer. While the fall and winter months are getting super crowded with amazing games, it's hard not to get excited about DICE's military-shooter juggernaut. So, it was worth getting pumped today at the news of a new trailer – except it's only a teaser.

DICE and EA have just released a teaser, for a trailer, of an upcoming game. Wow.
