When I woke up this morning, hearing that Paradox Interactive and Fatshark had announced a new game called "War of the Roses," I thought it was really weird that the "Magicka" publisher had decided to license a 1989 Danny DeVito movie. Well, it turns out the game has absolutely nothing to do with the film of the same name, but it is a melee-based medieval combat game . There's very few details as of yet, but Paradox was kind enough to release a short trailer during GamesCom.

The very first teaser for "Borderlands 2" gave us a look at one of the four new playable characters. Yes, Gearbox is ditching the original four heroes in favor of a new cast of zany characters and the first one they're introducing us to is a bearded gentleman named Salvadore. He is a Gunzerker, which should fill in most of the blanks regarding his playstyle, but in case you still have questions, more specifics have just been revealed.

Ah, the Nintendo Wii. Where once it heralded a new generation of gaming, now it tends to sit next to your TV, not doing a whole lot. Sure, there have been good games released in 2011. "Donkey Kong Country Returns" and...wait...I'll think of it. Um, "Lost in Shadow" was pretty good. Ok, clearly we've hit a rough patch in the lifespan of the Wii. But the impending console funeral won't end without a bang. Yes, we have "The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword" riding in to give the Wii one last hurrah before it fades into pre-Wii U obscurity. Nintendo revealed the official release date for "Skyward Sword" today, pegging the return of Link for November 20, 2011.

There have been mounting rumors lately that Sony would drop the price of the PlayStation 3 – it was a pretty safe bet at this point, two years since such a cut – but today during their GamesCom presentation, the company officially announced that the price of the 160gb PlayStation 3 would lower by 50 bucks to $249.99. That wasn't the only announcement, though, as Sony also premiered some new PlayStation Vita titles and even a new PlayStation Portable (really).

GamesCom is under way in Cologne, Germany today, and like any respectable video game trade show, the event has kicked off with big press conferences. EA took the stage this morning – well, I suppose that's afternoon over there – to show off a bunch of their wares, but most noticeably, DICE gave us our first glimpse at "Battlefield 3" cooperative play. The demo itself didn't exactly break new ground in terms of co-op gameplay, but there's no denying the mode looks incredibly fun.

We all know just how horribly busy this holiday season is going to be for gaming. Starting with next week's "Deus Ex: Human Revolution," it's basically a straight shot of big games being released every single week until the end of November. Not pretty for the wallet or for our free time. It's even more bothersome that, when the holiday season ends, we hit a notoriously dry period for new releases. That slow season typically extends to February, but now we know that we'll at least have an enormous RPG with which to kill a few dozen hours. EA has announced that "Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning" is scheduled for release in the US on February 7, 2012. Europe will get the game three days later.

You may recall that one of my favorite iOS games of all time is the mighty "Super Stickman Golf." Despite simplistic graphics, the game is a strategic delight, blending spot-on physics with "Artillery"-style controls. "Artillery" actually inspired another game franchise, "Worms," which replaced non-moving cannons with psychopathic annelids. And "Worms," as it happens, already attempted the golf genre with the Java-based "Worms Crazy Golf" back in 2007. Now Team 17, the original developer of the "Worms" franchise, is attempting to take back the phsyics-based arcade golf genre crown from "Super Stickman Golf" with its own full release of "Worms Crazy Golf" on iOS, PS3 and PC. Yes, I realize we're getting into Mobius strip territory here.

In a market full of action games, how does any one game stand out? The answer is simple: make it different. At first glance UTV Ignition Games' latest release "El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron" may appear to be similar to countless other games on the rack, but, if you dig a little deeper, and you'll find that this quest to bind fallen angels isn't your average "God of War" knockoff.

About a week ago, Gearbox revealed that "Borderlands 2" would dispose of the first game's four original vault hunters – they're still in the game as non-playable characters – and replace them with four brand-new characters. In addition, we got our first look at one of the personas you can jump into when the game releases next year, Salvador. Sure, seeing pictures is one thing, but if you were looking forward to seeing some dual-wielding, a new teaser trailer has just arrived.
Check out the Salvador video right after the jump.

I'm standing in some weird country – the name sounds made up – and searching desperately for some obscure item that only marginally seems like it should help me in my quest. Of course, I'm only remotely aware of what that quest actually is, but I think it involves ripping off some foreign person with a strange name. It doesn't really matter, though, because I'm somehow completely incapable of finding this proverbial needle in a haystack.
That's the way it feels playing through Wesley Snipes' first foray into the video game market. It's bizarre, confusing, and most of the time, just lacking in fun.
