Back on Towel Day – May 25 – Hothead Games, the studio behind "DeathSpank," announced that they were in development on an interactive "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" for iOS devices. The details were few, but as a "Guide" dork, I'm cautiously optimistic that this could actually turn into a fun little toy for fans of the franchise. Today, Hothead has identified a release window, issued some new screens, and let us know how much we can expect to pay for a neat little replica of the Guide. Hint: it's my favorite price.

Nintendo 3DS

UPDATE: Nintendo reps initially gave us specific release dates for "Super Mario 3D Land" and "Mario Kart 7." Those dates have since been deemed "unofficial." Currently the only official release time-frames are November for "Super Mario 3D Land" and December for "Mario Kart 7."

Original Story: The 3DS has been in the news lately, what with Nintendo's recent announcement that the handheld gaming device would be dropping in price to $169.99 (down from $249.99 at launch). The news was not greeted warmly by fans who purchased the handheld on day one, even though they were rewarded with 20 free classic Nintendo games to download, but the price drop was never meant for them. The idea is to encourage new fans to adopt Nintendo's handheld, and the company isn't just stopping at the price tag.

After March 12, there will be two types of Nintendo 3DS owner: the original pioneers, who were willing to spend $250 to be among the first with their hands on the technology, and those who saved $80 by waiting patiently (not long) for the device to experience less-than-stellar sales. Of course, while new 3DS owners will have saved some scratch, the "ambassadors" as Nintendo is calling them, will receive 20 free games for their loyalty. So there, you bunch of noobs – I'm an ambassador, and you'll totally be jealous when I'm rockin' my free games.

Unless, of course, you buy a 3DS from Wal-Mart in the next couple days. In that case, you'll not only save the $80, but you'll still get the 20 free titles. Jerks.

During this year's E3, folks who watched the Microsoft press conference got the first public look at "Modern Warfare 3" gameplay. The mission, which involved an underwater assault on a Russian submarine based in New York harbor, was taken from the single-player campaign. Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer showed more of the game behind closed doors during E3, though. Part of that demonstration was a hands-on session with Spec Ops Survival mode, a two-player co-op mode which is akin to Horde mode in "Gears of War 2" meets Zombie mode in "Black Ops." I actually previewed that mode in boring ol' text, if you're interested.

Today sees the release of the final downloadable character add-on for the latest "Mortal Kombat." I know, a sad moment, but take solace that you can take this character with you – even into your crappy '80s dreams. Starting today, you can download Freddie Krueger – yes, Freddie as in "Nightmare on Elm Street" – direct to your line-up of warriors. Sadly lacking from today's announcement is a surprise visit from a playable Michael Myers.

Riots have spread across London since Saturday night, leaving parts of the city stricken with structure fires and looting. While there are different theories as to the cause of the sudden uprising, many reports claim that the disturbance is largely due to recent cuts in government programs such as welfare, as well as other spending measures that will eliminate many public employees through 2015. Whatever the reason, the violence and destruction have set many businesses ablaze. Caught up in the riots was one large distribution center owned by Sony.

"Madden" fans have had a pretty intense few months. In addition to waiting to see whether the NFL season would actually happen, this year's edition of the game is coming a bit later than usual, hitting stores on August 30. To help make the wait a little more managable, EA has released a demo for "Madden NFL 12," which is available on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live today.

Humble Indie Bundle

For all the talk about game piracy, it's good to know that, if given the option of paying a penny or paying actual, real money, people are willing to shell out some dough for some solid, DRM-free content. The third Humble Indie Bundle kicked off the other week and has been rolling its way to success. Thus far it has collected $2 million, with the proceeds spread across indie game developers are charities like Child's Play and the Electronic Frontier Foundation. If you're not part of that $2 million and are interested in taking advantage of one of the best deals in gaming, you better make your move, as the Humble Indie Bundle ends today at 7PM EST.

Kinect

As I mentioned earlier today in my review of "Fruit Ninja Kinect," one of the main reasons I haven't played many Kinect games since launch is the fact that my apartment simply doesn't have the space. It would require Herculean furniture-moving efforts and I'm really only willing to do that once a month or so. The Nyko Zoom, however, may make that a thing of the past.
