"Call of Duty XP," the "Call of Duty" fan convention taking place in Los Angeles over Labor Day weekend, is sounding like it's going to be an impressive experience. Activision already announced that the event would feature appearances by celebrities like Will Arnett, but now comes a reveal that Kanye West will actually close the event with a performance on Saturday night, September 3.
West's appearance at "Call of Duty XP" is no small feat, considering this will mark the artist's first live appearance since releasing his collaborative effort with Jay-Z, "Watch the Throne." He'll take the stage around 8PM on Saturday night, closing out the two-day event.
"We promised our attendees and fans around the world a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the first Call of Duty XP, so we're thrilled to have Kanye on board," said Activision Publishing CEO, Eric Hirshberg. "Call of Duty XP is a celebration of one of the greatest games in the world. So what better way to top it off with one of the greatest artists in the world?"
Kanye and Jay-Z are currently facing some legal woes over "Watch the Throne," thanks to a disagreement over the duo's use of sample from the 1967 song, "Different Strokes." R&B artist Syl Johnson has alleged that the sample was used by Def Jam without the artist's permission. Johnson's lawsuit claims that he is a "veteran of copyright infringement cases."
Activision has previously stated that XP will have plenty to offer for those who can't make it out to Los Angeles next weekend, including numerous live video feeds. There's no word yet as to whether Kanye's performance will also stream through the site. For those who are attending the event, capacity is around 6,000 people; practically intimate for a mega-star performer like Kanye West.
We'll have on-site coverage from the event starting late next week.
