What if, for every single action you perform in a game, someone was behind you, keeping an record. Almost like a play-by-play commentator. Or, better yet, a scribe, recording every koopa kick and no-scope headshot for future generations to applaud. It would make everything you do, even the most basic things, feel a bit more important, wouldn't it? "Bastion" is all about making you feel more important.

Comic-Con, it's not just for comics anymore! What? You say it hasn't just been for comics for like a decade now? Ah, well, consider this a reaffirmation of it not being just for comics. Case in point: Nintendo is bringing a full slate of 2011 releases for the masses to enjoy. Granted, some of them are already out, but others, like "Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword" and "Super Mario 3DS" will undoubtedly please Con-goers.

A month ago, we told you about the Xbox Live Indie Games Summer Uprising. The community-created event originally began last winter, as a way to showcase some of the better titles that appear on the Xbox Live indie marketplace. Over the last month, developers have submitted their games, hoping to grab the featured spots when the event begins at the end of August. Today, the top eight indie games have been announced, and you'll even have a chance to vote on which games will take the last two slots.

After two "Assassin's Creed" games starring Ezio Auditore, there weren't too many people expecting a third. After all, the last major time period and protagonist change was back in 2009 with "Assassin's Creed 2." Despite that, Ubisoft is sticking with the Italian assassin for one more go-around in "Assassin's Creed Revelations." The game's focus will be on forming the connection between Ezio and the franchise's first protagonist, Altair. That heretofore untold story is clearly important to the franchise, but it was a story that was originally going to be told on a handheld device, according to Darby McDevitt, lead writer for "Revelations."

Robot Entertainment have signed on with Microsoft Game Studios to bring "Orcs Must Die" to the Xbox Live Arcade and PC later this summer. The game blends third-person action-adventure and elements from tower defense games, placing you in the role of a hero tasked with stopping increasingly difficult waves of orcs. There's no definite date yet, but it seems like we could see the game by late next month.

Now that "Super Meat Boy" is basically wrapped in terms of updates (apart from curated user-created content), the members of Team Meat have started work on their next game. "The Binding of Isaac" is not that game. It's more like a side-project from Edmund McMillen, who has teamed up with Florian Himsl (of "Coil" and "Triachnid") to create a "Zelda"-inspired dual-stick RPG.

This fall's new release schedule is looking fantastic, and one franchise in particular is filling up my dance card pretty quickly. Strangely enough, it appears the end of 2011 will have me spending a huge chunk of time playing through older games. When I finished "Halo Reach" earlier this year, there was only one thing I wanted to do: jump right into "Halo: Combat Evolved." Thanks to a remastered edition due out this fall, I can play the entire "Halo" saga from start to finish – and prepare for "Halo 4."
Of course, what's a major release these days without some pre-order incentives? Microsoft Studios and 343 Industries announced today that "Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary" pre-orders will land you some avatar gear and an explosive in-game ability.

There's an old saying, "there's no such thing as bad publicity." Though it was critically panned, "Duke Nukem Forever" appears to have pulled off some decent U.S. sales figures last month. According to the NPD Group, the game managed to take the second-highest sales spot for the month of June. Leading all software titles for the month was Rockstar's "L.A. Noire," the second month it has dominated the sales charts. Third place went to Sony's "inFamous 2."

I remember when I was a kid – yes, that was quite a while ago – trading and buying game cartridges with friends. None of our families had very much money, and sometimes the only way we could actually play a game was to swap a completed game with whatever the kid down the street had finished playing. If you didn't have something to trade, you had to fork over some money, but it was obviously considerably less than buying new. Times have changed; online play is often a vital feature in games, extending the life of a title that you would have previously considered "beaten."
Game publishers don't want you to trade those games anymore, and more importantly, they don't want some retailer making cash on a used game. That's cash they will never see in the form of another sale. Today, Ubisoft has joined a growing number of companies who are trying to get that money out of your pocket – one way or another.

Oh, PC and PlayStation 3 "Call of Duty: Black Ops" players. Exclusivity agreements are the bane of your existence. Xbox 360 owners have spent close to a month playing through the latest map pack, Annihilation, while you have been forced to sit on the sidelines, waiting. Well, it appears your wait is almost over. 13 more days of anxious waiting, and 15 bucks, will finally get you back into the action with some brand new "Black Ops" content.
