Burnout Crash

Earlier this month, the world got its first look at the newest "Burnout" game since "Paradise." It may have surprised a few people, as it's unlike anything Criterion has done before. And yet, after playing a few rounds, "Burnout Crash" is surprisingly true to the Crash mode that inspired it, even expanding on the concept in new and interesting ways. Suddenly, it has become one of my most anticipated downloadable games of 2011.

After a rough day yesterday for fans of old-school gaming on the Nintendo 3DS, Sega has just officially announced "Aliens: Infestation" will see a September release on the DS. WayForward – who you may be familiar with from their work on "Contra 4" – have developed the title in collaboration with Gearbox Software. While the game is a new property, the screenshots released by Sega today certainly evoke a feeling of nostalgia.

Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3

UPDATE: It seems Capcom wasn't too careful about where they hid the remaining "Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3" characters, as members of NeoGAF spotted artwork for each of the 12 new characters on Capcom's servers. If you're not worried about spoilers, the full list is at the bottom of this post.

Original Story: If you thought Capcom was limiting its re-releases to the "Street Fighter" franchise, you clearly don't know Capcom. As the publisher that basically inventing DLC in cartridge form back in the 90s, the company has seen plenty of success with recent re-releases like "Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix" and "Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition," even if it hasn't seen much success in keeping its game titles under 6 words. It recently expanded the trend outside of "Street Fighter" with the upcoming "Dead Rising 2: Off the Record" and now they're giving the re-release treatment to "MvC 3" with "Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3," coming in November for $39.99.

In some of the least surprising news of the week, Activision has officially announced an HD version of iconic first-person shooter "Goldeneye 007." Yesterday, what appeared to be upscaled screenshots of the Wii remake – released last year – appeared online. Everyone immediately suspected we would hear something soon, and today it seems "GoldenEye 007: Reloaded" is a reality. I call dibs on Baron Samedi during any and all multiplayer matches.

As one 3DS title is revealed today, another gets the axe. Capcom has announced that they have cancelled development on the previously announced 3DS title "Mega Man Legends 3." The project was intended to have deep community support, releasing prototype versions on the Nintendo 3DS eShop, asking for input to make the game better. Unfortunately, Capcom has decided that the project wasn't fulfilling the necessary "criteria" to move forward.

Call of Duty XP

Goldeneye 007 HD

Last year's "GoldenEye 007" was a surprisingly good ode to the classic N64 shooter. Unfortunately it was on the Wii, which meant that the visuals were decidedly less than HD. That's not to mention the folks who grew up with "GoldenEye" but have since moved on to non-Nintendo platforms for their FPS needs. Those folks are getting their due this holiday, though, as "GoldenEye 007 Reloaded" will update the game with HD visuals and presumably a handful of other new features.

When Nintendo releases a new piece of hardware, there are certain software franchises that just have to make an appearance. We've seen "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" rereleased on the 3DS, and soon we'll see the likes of Mario, "Kid Icarus," and even "Star Fox" on our little 3D screens. Obviously, that isn't everybody, and if Nintendo wants the 3DS to print money, they're going to need the inevitable "Pokémon" game.

Some rumors were milling about the last couple days about a collector's edition for the upcoming "Batman: Arkham City." Well, it turns out the $99 price-point was accurate, and thanks to an announcement from Warner Bros. this morning, we get our first look at the premium package's content. It doesn't include a plastic Batarang, but there's plenty of great stuff inside.
