As I walked around the halls of E3 last month, it was hard to miss the Nyko Technologies booth. If you've never seen pictures of the Nyko demonstration area, they're usually flanked by girls wearing ridiculously red wigs, showing off the peripheral company's latest entry in the third-party hardware add-on industry. Now, I may have just kept on walking by to the next appointment, but what caught my eye was the Kinect set-up taking place. The wigged ladies were showing of the Nyko Zoom, a Kinect clip-on that allows you to play with Microsoft's motion device in smaller spaces.
What I couldn't help thinking was, "how did Microsoft miss the boat on this?"

A couple weeks ago, Rocksteady let us take our first look at their version of Robin in the upcoming "Batman: Arkham City." The only screen shown was a black and white image of Boy Wonder in a rather badass get-up, holding a bo staff. Now, thanks to a post on the game's official forums, we get to see some concept art of Batman's sidekick, as well as an explanation of the artist's thought process when transferring this iconic character from the page to your console.

November 11, 2011. That's the day when "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" will hit store shelves, heralding weeks, if not months, of minimal sleep and unproductive work days. Unfortunately that's still about five months away, an eternity in video game time, and fans of the franchise have little to do, short of replaying the previous games over and over again. But wait, there might be another option. Seems that some "TES" fans have been working on a mod for "Oblivion" for the last few years and it's actually nearing release. And damn if it doesn't look impressive.

If you're not familiar with Overclocked Remix, but consider yourself a fan of video game music, your bandwidth is about to take a hit. The site is a treasure trove of musical odes to classic games. Rather than simply posting the original scores, the site is a database for fans to upload their own tracks inspired by the game's tunes. For example: A hip-hop inspired remix of the "Lost Woods" theme from "Zelda: A Link to the Past." Or how 'bout a big band jazz take on the "Super Mario Bros. 2" theme? The amount of talent here is extraordinary.

I've had a difficult time getting into "Final Fantasy" games since "Final Fantasy VII." Sure, I've played through most of the franchise's offerings since, but I haven't really loved any of the newer games as much as that particular entry. The biggest problem – as I'm sure you'll all quickly agree – is that there just wasn't enough rhythm game mechanics worked into "Final Fantasy." Why can't I tap-to-the-tune through battles, instead of all this ridiculous role-playing game stuff? Finally, it appears that Square Enix have heard the never-ending call of the masses with "Theatrhythm Final Fantasy."

If you're a gamer who enjoys playing online, the Nintendo Wii has probably left you wanting. Online play has never been Nintendo's strong-point, but recent revelations is regards to the Wii U certainly give the appearance that the company is trying to flip that bad rep around. During E3 this year, Ubisoft producer Adrian Blunt let it slip that the Nintendo was dropping friend codes all together, allowing for an experience closer to that found on Xbox Live. This was solidified further when Shigeru Miyamoto, a week later, implied that Mii avatars would somehow work into a universal online platform for the Wii U.
Now, it sounds like the company is even willing to let third-party publishers push their own online networks onto the console.

Good news for people who don't like to pay for things! Last week we ran down all the relevant details regarding the "Uncharted 3" beta, including what sorts of modes are supported and how you can get access to it. The second part of that feature is officially meaningless now as the beta has now opened up to the world at large (or at least anyone with a PSN account).

Over the past few weeks, details have leaked out from former Team Bondi employees, dishing the dirt on alleged poor working conditions during the development of "L.A. Noire." The game has done well, both critically and commercially, but one has to question the studio's methods in getting the product out the door. The original news came through an IGN article by Andrew McMillen, wherein a number of workers claimed that they were forced to work long overtime without compensation, and stated that over 100 contributors to "L.A. Noire" were omitted from the credits.
Today, a follow-up story at gamesindustry.biz reveals some further details from two former Team Bondi employees, including internal emails. Big surprise: it isn't pretty.

Sometimes, just purchasing "Lord of the Rings: War in the North" and playing the game isn't enough. Sometimes, you need to commemorate your love for a game you haven't played yet by receiving its assorted materials in a giant quiver. The "War in the North" collector's edition, launching this fall, includes quite a few goodies for gamers who are hardcore enough to fork over the cash. Oh, did I mention it's only $130?

"Fallout: New Vegas" was excellent...once you got past the bugs. Unfortunately, for those who enjoyed the post-apocalyptic romp, additional missions through DLC have been hard to come by. The first DLC pack came just a couple months after the game's release release, but the wait until the second one, "Honest Hearts," was a whopping five months. Thankfully things seem to be moving at a faster clip now, as the next DLC pack, "Old World Blues," is scheduled to drop on July 19. Bethesda released new screenshots of the pack which show off some of the new gear you can expect.
