Last year's "GoldenEye 007" was a surprisingly good ode to the classic N64 shooter. Unfortunately it was on the Wii, which meant that the visuals were decidedly less than HD. That's not to mention the folks who grew up with "GoldenEye" but have since moved on to non-Nintendo platforms for their FPS needs. Those folks are getting their due this holiday, though, as "GoldenEye 007 Reloaded" will update the game with HD visuals and presumably a handful of other new features.
The game remains officially unannounced at present, but the above screenshot (one of many) is a pretty good indicator that the "Bond" game Activision will have at Comic-Con this weekend is indeed "GoldenEye 007 Reloaded."
It's good news for fans of the original and fans of actually-decent "Bond" games, which is a surprisingly rare commodity these days.
I do wonder, though, how much people will take to the gameplay. The reason the original "GoldenEye" was such a hit was the multiplayer, but that multiplayer is woefully outdated these days. Running around corridors, mindlessly blasting away at anything that moves isn't really considered modern multiplayer gameplay, and while people might've gotten a nostalgic kick out of that gameplay on the Wii, it's hard to imagine anyone coming from "Battlefield" or "Call of Duty" and finding the multiplayer in "GoldenEye" to be a deep, fulfilling experience.
That said, if you're just looking for a fun, mindless party game, "GoldenEye 007 Reloaded" might just do the trick. And, in addition to the multiplayer, you've got that solid campaign to fall back on.
No word yet on an official release date or platforms, but I'd wager it'll be sometime this holiday season for 360 and PS3. Stay tuned, as official details should be spilling during this weekend's Comic-Con festivities.
