OK, I know what some of you are thinking: why in the world do you care about a Kinect game that has you dancing around your living room with furry Sesame Street characters? Yes, "Once Upon A Monster" is a licensed game based on a PBS children's show. Yes, it's primarily geared towards an audience that's likely much younger than you. But here's why you should care: this game is genuinely fun, filled with Double Fine's trademark humor, and is officially a part of an unfortunately diminutive number of games that have me excited about Kinect.

In "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2," Infinity Ward's answer to all the demands for co-op play was Spec Ops mode. The mode basically featured a variety of encounters set across sections of the single player game which you could play with another person, with varied objectives like "Get to Point A without being spotted" or "Defend this point using airstrikes for 5 minutes." It was actually one hell of a fun mode, and it's returning in "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3" in the form of Spec Ops Mission. But there's a new kind of Spec Ops mode in the new game: Survival.

I've been hearing some grumbling around E3 this year in regards to "Ninja Gaiden 3." I overheard someone yesterday saying, "They've ruined it; The game is just full of quick-time events." That sounded pretty awful, but I tried to enter my hands-on time with Ryu Hyabusa today with an open mind. My hesitation quickly turned into dread, unfortunately, when the game immediately started giving me on-screen prompts to mash the X-button to pull off an execution.
The good news is, after speaking to a Team Ninja representative this morning, this entire hubbub over "Ninja Gaiden" going "God of War" may just be a huge misunderstanding.

So, I'm pretty sure we can all agree that "Batman: Arkham Asylum" is the greatest Batman game ever made, right? After years of passable or even horrid licensed titles that never really gave you the sensation of truly being the Dark Knight, Rocksteady managed to knock one out of the proverbial park in 2009. Each time I see more of the studio's next foray into the Batman universe, "Batman: Arkham City," the game looks better. After checking out the E3 demo, I'm convinced that this will be one of the best games of 2011.

When I interviewed THQ's Danny Bilson this morning, he told me that "Saints Row: The Third" was completely crazy. "This thing is, uh...pretty out there," he told me. That's not entirely surprising; the two previous "Saints Row" games have prided themselves on providing an open-world experience that while similar to "Grand Theft Auto," actually amps up the crude behavior. Well, after checking out the E3 demo this afternoon, I can tell you this: the fifteen minutes I've seen of "Saints Row: The Third" were absolutely insane.

One of the reasons Nintendo has lagged behind Microsoft and Sony with their online gaming experiences is the lack of a unified identifier for players. On Xbox Live you have a gamertag. If your friend knows your gamertag, all they need to do is type it in and add you as a friend. On the Wii, your friend needs your friend code, a 12 character series of randomized letters and numbers. And, even if they have that, you'd need their friend code entered on your end for the two of you to become friends. It was initially created to prevent kids from befriending random adults online, but has since become more of a pain than anything else. According to Ubisoft producer, Adrian Blunt, the days of friend codes are numbered.

During last year's E3, 2K Marin showed off the game they'd be working on now that "BioShock 2" was in the can. That game was "XCOM," a revival of a classic, beloved PC tactical strategy series from the early 90s. But the game 2K Marin showed off wasn't exactly "XCOM." In fact, it looked more like a linear first-person shooter set in the 1960s where you had to battle black blobs of goo in a suburban neighborhood. It needed a lot of work, and it seems the developers knew that, as the "XCOM" I just saw at this year's E3 was an entirely different beast.

"Gears of War 2" introduced a new mode called Horde. It was loved by many, but not really by me. The concept was simple enough: You and three other players attempt to survive 50 waves of progressively more difficult enemy AI. While I definitely had some fun at first, I found it was too repetative, with each wave feeling like you were starting from scratch. "Gears of War 3" is hoping to remedy that feeling with Horde 2.0.

On Saturday, SyFy Channel aired the premiere of "Red Faction: Origins," a made for television film adapted from the popular THQ game franchise. Honestly, the movie wasn't half bad; especially compared to the usual game-to-movie adaptation schlock (paging Mr. Boll). The movie was born from a recent partnership between THQ and SyFy, which also spawned a television adaptation of the publisher's "de Blob" games.
According to THQ executive vice president Danny Bilson, there's more movies on the way.

I love PixelJunk games. Q Games have developed a brand that works perfectly within the realm of downloadable titles; they're fun little games that are incredibly easy to pick up, but offer enough difficulty and creativity to really engage you. The last two "PixelJunk Shooter" games were enjoyable shoot-em-ups, but I was totally surprised when "PixelJunk SideScroller" appeared out of nowhere. This game was way below the radar – I have no idea why – and I was immediately excited when I spotted the game during a stroll through Sony's E3 booth today.
