I made a decision back in 2009. When I made it, I had no idea it would actually come back to affect me two years later.
It was a simple decision, after all: do I play "Infamous" as a good guy or a bad guy? The game, an open-world action/adventure that put you in the shoes of a electrified super hero, encouraged such a distinct choice. In "Infamous," players who exhibited shades of gray ended up being less powerful than those who went whole hog as fully evil or good, as the strongest powers required a high karmic ranking. I chose good.

"Duke Nukem Forever" hasn't had the easiest ride in the world. After 15 years of on-again, off-again development, Gearbox took the project over and finally released the game this month. Reception to the title has been – well, less than exemplary; our own review called the game "an absolute rip-off." Other reviews of the game have varied from mediocre to near hatred for a character who seems completely out of touch with the times. Duke now feels like that weird, distant cousin who shows up to birthday parties, drunkenly cracking inappropriate jokes, and everyone talks about how big of a jerk he is after he leaves.
Well, if that analogy holds true, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick is apparently the family member who wants to invite the jerk back, thinking this time he's changed.

Every day, indie games are becoming a bigger force in the industry. Much like film in the late '60s, there's a sense that a healthy undercurrent of young minds are actually coming up with the new ideas that will move the medium forward. As the major studios and their publishers' budgets climb astronomically with each AAA release title, there are those creators out there who are still making video games the hard way: in a garage, or a back room, with very little money, but the total freedom to express their personal vision through the game.
The much anticipated documentary, "Indie Game: The Movie," takes a deeper look at what it takes to be one of those sleepless visionaries. Now, the film is far enough along that there's a brand new trailer, as well as another opportunity to help finance its post-production.

A talking skull with a thing for phone sex. A level where you walk on the stomach of a naked stripper. A weapon called The Big Boner. Those three things appear in a single 10-minute span of "Shadows of the Damned" and give you a good sense that this is not a game for all ages. It's weird, it's crude and, as it happens, it's remarkably fun and well-written. If you're bemoaning the lack of originality in video games, you should probably take a moment and play this game.

Last week we told you about the hacking group LulzSec, who had claimed responsibility for shutting down a number of video game sites and servers. Games like "Minecraft" and "EVE Online" were taken down for a short period of time, and the group has since moved on to high-ranking government sites. Today, it seems as though Scotland Yard is investigating an arrested 19 year-old man for connections to the group, and his involvement with a recent wave of government distributed denial-of-service attacks.
Scotland Yard is also looking into the man's possible connections with the recent Sony data breach.

Those who stay abreast of big releases on the iPhone and iPad are likely already familiar with "Sword & Sworcery EP," one of the prettiest dang games to ever to grace the platform. In case you managed to miss all of the promotion (and the day Twitter exploded with random "S&SEP" tweets), your ignorance is being rewarded today with a sale for the game, bringing the price down from $5 to a dollar on iPhone and iPod Touch and two dollars on iPad.

Fans of "Star Wars" and Traveller's Tales' ongoing Lego games franchise have something new to look forward to this fall. No, it's not another "Lego Star Wars" game – seriously, there's already a lot of those – but it does feature the characters from the games. It looks like the plastic heroes are coming to the small screen for a television special this September. The special is based on "Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars," which means it's a television special, based on a video game, based on a television show. My eyes just crossed.

During Nintendo's E3 press conference, it was announced that those who buy "Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D" for 3DS and register the purchase on the Club Nintendo site will receive a free copy of the game's soundtrack. The deal was only supposed to be in effect for those that registered the game yesterday (Sunday), but it seems the registration site ran into difficulties, and few were able to confirm their registrations.

Last week, we reported that "Portal 2" and "Half-Life" developer Valve are planning on making an appearance at GamesCom in Germany this August. The company was a no-show at E3 this year, and so of course, there's a bit of speculation going on as to what exactly Gabe Newell and crew are planning on showing off in Europe. Well, if an interview with Valve's Doug Lombardi is any indication, the answer just might be a free-to-play game.

There's no question that Microsoft is trying to push Kinect into every facet of their Xbox 360 line-up. During the company's E3 press conference, the motion-sensing device was clearly the main focal point, demonstrating how a number of upcoming titles are "better with Kinect." While previous Kinect titles have focused more on casual gamers – "Dance Central," for instance – Microsoft is now hoping core gamers will jump on-board with Kinect integration in popular games like "Mass Effect 3."
According to Microsoft's Phil Spencer, even "Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary" edition will somehow integrate Kinect.
