Just when you thought the Transformers of Michael Bay's movie universe had retreated into an Energon-induced coma, they're back for another round of Autobot vs. Decepticon gaming action. The "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" tie-in game is tasked with bridging the gap between the last film, "Revenge of the Fallen," and the upcoming third film, while also drawing upon the success of the critically praised "Transformers: War For Cybertron," which unfolded outside of the movie continuity.

During E3, Nintendo's president and CEO, Satoru Iwata, announced that we could expect another release from the "Super Smash Bros." franchise to make its way onto Wii U and the 3DS. That's great news for fans of the character-driven, party-style fighting game, but it seems like you may be waiting for awhile. According to the series' creator, Masahiro Sakurai, the development team hasn't even had a chance to give the next game any thought whatsoever.

"Sometimes wizards don't get along." So reads the tag line for the latest addition to cult-hit "Magicka." Paradox Interactive have announced that player-vs-player combat has finally been introduced to the previously cooperative-heavy action adventure game. The company have also released a new trailer that takes a cue from an infamous scene in "Reservoir Dogs." It's actually pretty funny.

I'll be the first to tell you that most free-to-play games are free for a reason. But every once in a while, an honest-to-goodness game developer jumps into the free-to-play space and does some serious damage. PopCap proved that free-to-play games can actually be decent with "Bejeweled Blitz," but the iOS hasn't seen too many must-play gems lacking a price tag (save for the occasional fire sale). But here comes "Tiny Tower," which launched today and just ate up a chunk of my morning.

You know what makes me feel old? Hearing that "Sonic the Hedgehog" was first released on the Sega Genesis 20 years ago today. I vividly remember the kid down the street from me getting the game first, going over to his house, and playing it for the better part of an afternoon. Celebrating the blue furball's two decade run, Sega has released a limited-time demo for its upcoming "Sonic Generations" title. I'll probably go download it, right after I drink my Geritol.

We already know that Catwoman is a playable character in "Batman: Arkham City." Now, it looks like The Boy Wonder himself is set to make an appearance in Rocksteady's follow-up to their fantastic 2009 game, "Batman: Arkham Asylum." While Catwoman is built right into the game, there's a bit of a catch if you want to play as Robin right away: you're going to have to pre-order the game from Best Buy. Holy retailer incentives, Batman.

One of the great things about "Fallout" games – since "Fallout 3," anyways – is that you can always count on Bethesda to keep the downloadable-content coming. The latest game in the series, "Fallout: New Vegas," is no exception, and Bethesda has just announced a release date for the title's third downloadable-content pack. "Old World Blues" will release for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on July 19.

After 3 years, "Diablo 3" fans have likely learned that expecting a release date anytime soon is purely self-torture and that the game will be finished "when it's done." After all, this is Blizzard we're talking about. Those same fans do have something to look forward to, though: the "Diablo 3" external beta, which we first reported on back in May. At that time, the beta was targeting the third quarter of 2011, which officially starts in just over a week. So will the world will get its first taste of "Diablo 3" in July? Absolutely, 100% not.

Every year, judges from a wide variety of gaming media – including our own editor-in-chief, Russ Frushtick – vote on what they feel are the standout games on display at the Electronic Entertainment Expo. Before those final votes are cast, however, the group releases their list of nominees. That list of hopefuls just went up, and though there aren't many surprises among the 17 different categories, it does serve as a nice snapshot of the industry's biggest upcoming games.

Nintendo's official premiere at the Wii U console was easily the most talked about event during this year's E3 conference. As it happened, the focus of the announcement was not on the console itself but on its controller, a wholly unique contraption with a built-in screen, capable of beaming full gameplay footage into the palm of your hand.
There was little doubt about Nintendo's level of innovation, but the presentation did leave a lot of questions regarding some of the areas in which the company has lagged behind competitors. Nintendo has been notoriously slow to provide gamers with a viable online gaming platform and that remains the case even after the launch of their latest device, the Nintendo 3DS. It begs the question, will the Wii U finally be different? I spoke with Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo's head of game design and the creator of "Mario" and "Zelda," to get the answer.
