In the week leading up to E3, I was peppered with enough random "Aliens" gear to choke a xenomorph. But modded nerf guns and bloody doll heads aren't the same as seeing "Aliens: Colonial Marines" in action, which I had the chance to do just a few minutes ago.

Earlier today, the world learned about Nintendo's follow-up to the Wii from their press conference at E3. We were there too, but if you've already read our initial post on the announcement, you'd know that it's missing one crucial detail: actual hands-on play. Thankfully I had the chance to remedy that right after the press conference, as I went hands-on with several of the "experiences" Nintendo is showing off.

The wait is finally over. After months of speculation over the details of Nintendo's next console, the company has finally lifted the curtain on their upcoming hardware. Previously referred to as Project Café, the next Nintendo console is dubbed Wii U. No, it's not a new community college; this is how Nintendo is entering the HD age. This is only an initial reveal – no price point was mentioned, unfortunately – but we did get a brief glimpse at some upcoming Wii U software, and its incredible controller.

When it comes to the business of video games, few things remain secret for very long. But, even though he know a bunch of tidbits about Nintendo's next console, the follow-up to the Wii, it's still surprisingly shrouded in mystery, even though it'll be announced in earnest at 9AM PST today. Yes, all is likely to be revealed. Well, maybe not all. It's still too early for price and an exact release date (expect holiday 2012), but we'll definitely be seeing and, more importantly, playing the device in just a couple hours, which should answer a lot of questions.
For example, what's the deal with this touch screen controller everyone's talking about? And are we finally getting an HD console from Nintendo? And do they actually have an online solution that works? We should know the answers to all these questions and, hopefully, get the actual name of the console when Nintendo's press conference kicks off at 9AM PST today.
If you'd like to follow along with the action, you can watch the live stream here. We'll try to fill you in on the highlights as they happen, but press conference WiFi and cell service is notoriously spotty, so fair warning if we go a little dark. My hands-on session with the device is scheduled for immediately after the press conference, so stay tuned. Lots of exciting info is coming at you in just a matter of hours!

Electronic Arts held their press conference this afternoon, following the Microsoft press event. A few titles were on display, both previously announced and unannounced, but "Battlefield 3" clearly stole the show. The gameplay demo featured a nice display of the upcoming shooter's tank combat, and I have to say, October can't get here soon enough.
Here's a quick rundown of all the games on display during the EA press conference today.

Microsoft was certainly pushing the Kinect this morning. Beyond announcing a number of new Kinect-only titles, the company also exposed how some of the biggest core games in the Xbox 360 line-up will utilize the motion-sensing technology. Microsoft also announced "Kinect Fun Labs," a new dashboard feature that finally realizes many of the Kinect capabilities that the company had previously mentioned prior to the hardware's launch.

I'll admit that "Mass Effect 2" totally caught me by surprise. Apart from the interesting universe of the first game, I found "Mass Effect 1" a chore to get through, thanks to cumbersome combat, ugly environments and those horrible driving sequences. "Mass Effect 2," on the other hand, was my favorite game of 2010. It fixed just about every issue I had with the first game and totally sold me on the future of the series. Which makes "Mass Effect 3," the culmination of the trilogy, all the more important.

Despite the increasingly worrying chances that there may be a shortened or non-existent football season this year, EA Sports is, of course, still plowing ahead with a new "Madden" game. For those of you who don't purchase each annual installment on blind faith and/or a desire for updated rosters, you should know that there are some gameplay additions to "Madden NFL 12." The biggest one by far is something called Dynamic Player Performance.

Microsoft kicked off E3 this morning with their press conference, live from Los Angeles. While a large portion of the show focused on new Kinect titles – and how the motion-sensing device will play a role in more traditional hardcore games – we did get a first look at some of the biggest games on the slate for this year, 2012, and beyond. Not the least of which, Microsoft has announced that "Halo 4" is in the works.
