The ongoing Sony debacle is likely to change a few things. Obviously, it's going to force online network providers (Sony, Microsoft) to ensure that their security is actually capable of keeping out nefarious hackers. Secondly, there's a good chance that it's changed the way you look at storing your sensitive information on one of those services. Personally, I'm a bit wary of typing my credit card info into any game network's database. With that in mind, Microsoft has given Xbox users another – possibly safer – way to purchase games and other Xbox digital products online.

Back in November we spoke with Remedy's head of franchise development, Oskari Hakkinen, about the future of the "Alan Wake" franchise. At the time, Hakkinen was able to tell us that the series was "going forward," but any other details were scarce. More recently, rumors were rumbling about a potential sequel, with an artist's LinkedIn profile claiming current work on "Alan Wake 2." Well, the good news is that we're definitely going to see more another "Alan Wake" game, but exactly what that game is remains, perhaps appropriately, a mystery.

Splash Damage has been making multiplayer games for a decade now, starting in the days of "Quake 3." In recent years, the scope and scale of their games have expanded, with titles like "Enemy Territory: Quake Wars," which features massive maps and requires intra-team cooperation. Although the scale of their latest game, "Brink," is not quite as massive, it's just as ambitious. And while it impressive conceptually, and quite fun when it works, there are serious concerns which hinder it from being a threat to games like "Battlefield: Bad Company 2" and "Call of Duty: Black Ops."

About a year ago, the internet went all abuzz about the mysterious "Bungie Aerospace." There's a website, but that just claims it's "coming soon," and the famed "Halo" developer itself has given absolutely no clues as to what in the world Bungie Aerospace is, exactly. Personally, I had all but forgotten about the name, but it appears that Bungie has now filed for incorporation under the mysterious moniker in the states of Delaware and Washington.

Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing, discussed the company's 2011 installment of "Call of Duty" during a first quarter earnings call today. Back in the days before breakthrough franchises like "Lost Planet" and "Dead Rising," Capcom had taken on a rather conservative approach to the development of new properties. The company, apparently facing tight budget restrictions, had adopted a policy that almost entirely restricted the implementation of original titles. According to former Capcom development guru Keiji Inafune, he may have actually saved the company by breaking those very rules.

In Activision's first quarter investor call, Mike Morhaime, the president and a co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment, revealed that the developer is beginning company-wide testing on "Diablo 3" and is planning an external beta for the game for the third quarter of 2011. In layman's terms, you may be playing "Diablo 3" on your home computer as soon as July.

I really like my 3DS. It's a neat little toy, fun to show your friends and full of quirky little doodads. There's just one tiny problem: the launch software line-up has been seriously lacking. Currently, I only own one 3DS title, "Super Street Fighter IV," and that's not exactly a new, original game. Like a lot of 3DS owners, I'm still holding out hope for the inevitable first-party classic Nintendo games (read: "Ocarina of Time"), but it sure would be nice if I could get excited about anything other than superimposing my dog's head into "Face Raiders."

According to a GameStop release list (via Go Nintendo), there are at least a couple new games on their way to the 3DS, even if they're not entirely original IPs.

Nintendo

Two weeks ago, Nintendo confirmed what all the rumors were claiming: The company is working on a new console as a follow-up to the Wii. In the announcement, Nintendo said that the console was planned for release in 2012, and that the first public demonstration would be at this year's E3.

Today, Nintendo sent out invites to members of the press for their E3 press conference which will undoubtedly contain the first official details about their next console. That press conference is scheduled to start at 9AM Pacific Time on June 7. Mark your calenders!

Is anyone really surprised about when a "Call of Duty" game launches in November anymore? Forget about astronomical alignment or any of that other crap, you can pretty much set your calendar based on the franchise's yearly fall releases. So, it's probably not a big shocker that rumors are starting to swirl around today that a new "Call of Duty" game is releasing on November 8.
