Kuma Games started as a company with clear goals. When news happens, make a game out of it. The biggest news of last week, the assault on Osama Bin Laden's compound, seemed like perfect fodder for Kuma's realistic shooter franchise, "Kuma\War II." Despite the fact that the game hadn't been updated in ages, the Kuma team made a special exception for the Bin Laden mission, with plans to release the level for free in less than a week. They accomplished that feat and you can play through the mission now.

On April 30, Sony had stated via their PlayStation Blog that they hoped to have PlayStation Network and Qriocity services back online within a week. Unfortunately, the company soon announced that their Sony Online Entertainment servers had also experienced a breach, and millions of PlayStation gamers are still without the ability to even play games online. Nothing is entirely certain, but according to statements from a Sony representative, it looks like services may not receive full restoration until May 31.

iD software's upcoming first-person shooter, "RAGE," is still about four months away from release. The game was first announced way back in 2007, and despite the release of an iOS spin-off game last fall, new information about the game has been slowly distributed by publisher Bethesda. Today, the publisher announced a new way for "RAGE" and iD fans to get closer to the action, with a contest that just might score you a free trip to where the game was announced, QuakeCon.

The original "Deus Ex" was a PC game, first and foremost. While it eventually came to consoles in the form of a malligned PS2 port, it's the PC version people remember. Ironically, when it came to the second game in the series, "Deus Ex: Invisible War," it seemed that the title shifted more towards consoles, represented by a console-friendly UI which was clumsy on a mouse and keyboard. While not a bad game, "Invisible War" was considered a disappointment by fans, especially due to its lacking PC version. Eidos Montreal is making sure to not make the same mistake again, giving the PC version of "Deus Ex: Human Revolution" plenty of attention.

As we reported back in February, the Smithsonian American Art Museum had previously announced that an "Art of Video Games" exhibit would run from March 16, 2012 through September 30, 2012. The museum was looking for input from the community on what titles should be included, and the voting ended on April 17. Today, the institution has announced the results of that poll, listing the broad range of games that will be featured in the exhibit.

Almost five and a half years ago, Microsoft released the Xbox 360. With the current generation of consoles growing long in the tooth, and Nintendo revealing its next-generation hardware in June, the announcement of a new Microsoft console is increasingly likely. So, it may not be a huge shock that an Electronic Arts development team allegedly has a very early build of the new Xbox.

THQ announced a new feature for those looking forward to the release of "Saints Row: The Third." Dubbed the "Initiation Station," the system allows you to customize your character for the upcoming game. If you pre-order THQ's other upcoming title, "Red Faction: Armageddon," you'll find a voucher that allows you access to the Initiation Station a week earlier than everyone else.

Tell me if this sounds like a "Burnout" game to you: driving vehicles through an intersection at high speeds, attempting to ram whoever gets in your way. The more spectacular the crash, the more points you'll rack up. Sounds like "Burnout," right? Well, what if I added cartoony graphics and giant UFOs? According to an ESRB posting, that's exactly what you're getting with the yet-to-be-officially-announced "Burnout Crash."

Last night, NYU's Game Center played host for a talk with Erik Wolpaw. You undoubtedly know Erik's work as one of the writers behind "Portal" and the recently released "Portal 2." But he's been writing awesome words for way longer than that. Years before entering the game development community, he created the much-revered site, Old Man Murray, which brought a refreshing and hilarious take on the world of video games.
Last night's talk, however, was all about "Portal 2," and Wolpaw opened up about several fascinating insights into the development of the game's story and characters.

Remember how "Split/Second" wrapped up with a cliffhanger ending, and how you were waiting to find out exactly what the deal was? Yeah, well, we've got some bad news. It seems as though Disney Interactive, parent company of "Split/Second" developer Black Rock Studios, has announced some lay-offs. Unfortunate news for those affected, and a real shame for fans of this unique racing title.
