Miyamoto Promises 'Unique And Immediately Suitable' 3DS eShop Content

As is often the case with any online store, Nintendo has had varying levels of success with its download-focused e-nitiatives, WiiWare and DSiWare. Now that the 3DS is here and features more integrated web connectivity than any Nintendo release before it, an online shopping portal has been a foregone conclusion. The 3DS eShop is set to arrive via an update sometime next month, and top Nintendo creative Shigeru Miyamoto promises to deliver content for it that is designed to please gamers by making use of the 3DS' unique features.

"Personally speaking, because it's [for] 3DS, it'll be 3DS-specific, unique and immediately suitable for 3DS," Miyamoto said in an interview with Edge. "With downloadable games via eShop we will start to create meaningful and high-value games for 3DS specifically."

Miyamoto also said that we can look forward to seeing remakes of older games for 3DS being distributed via the eShop. The one title he mentioned in particular as something he'd like to see get a 3DS re-release is "The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past." What a beautiful dream come true that would be, eh?

"Do you remember 'Xevious' (a 2D NES shooter shown on 3DS at E3 last year)? It's two-layered and I really wanted to create that at the time. So to see 'Link To The Past' in two layers would be quite attractive for me."

He then added, "For me it's important that anyone can play, and that it's easy and comfortable for anyone - it's not forcing a game into the hardware itself."
