Alex Mercer returns later this year for "Prototype 2," but not how you'd expect. As we learned last week, Mercer is the villain this time around. He'll be facing off against Sergeant James Heller, freshly back from a tour of duty overseas and looking for revenge over the death of his family in the wake of Mercer's gyrations about New York City in the first game. None of that has any bearing on today's news, however, which features a new trailer showing off the quiet beauty of flight and the messy aftermath of a high-speed landing.

"Batman: Arkham City" is easily one of the most anticipated games of this year. It's no surprise given how outstanding its 2009 predecessor was. From the sound of things, players can expect a similar experience for the follow-up. The length will certainly measure up; in a new interview, developer Rocksteady Games confirms that players who just focus on working through the story should expect to spend 8 to 10 hours with it.

Earlier today, Nintendo dropped by with the Nintendo 3DS review kit. Along for the ride were a handful of women, dressed all in white, carrying tethered 3DS's. Thankfully one of those was not my review unit, as that probably would've ended poorly.
Anyway, inside the kit was the 3DS box (the electric blue version) and six games: "Nintendogs," "Steel Diver," "Pilotwings Resort," "Madden," "Super Street Fighter 4," "LEGO Star Wars III." You can watch the unboxing process at the top of this post.

"Castlevania: Lord of Shadow" is a great game. Damnably difficult in certain respects -- I'm looking at you, hated Lord of the Lycans -- but very much in the spirit of the series once you get past the immediate similarities to "God of War." Konami and developer MercurySteam announced last year that a pair of DLC packs are coming, entitled "Reverie" and "Resurrection," for release this year. Now we have a date, at least for the first pack: March 30.

If you play video games then you've heard about "Homefront." Publisher THQ has been everywhere with it, touting the contributions of "Red Dawn" writer/director John Milius to the story, the multiplayer, the high number of pre-orders, all sorts of things. Now the day has arrived and "Homefront" is here to be played by one and all. Is it worth your time though?

In addition to the story-driven solo campaign, "Homefront" also includes a deep, highly customizable multiplayer mode in which players can earn levels, unlock equipment, perks, weapons and all that other fun stuff that we've come to know and love since "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" perfected the idea of carrying MMO elements into your everyday first-person shooter.
To help you prepare for the coming conflict, we've put together this little guide running through the various guns, attachments, grenades, camouflage, purchaseable equipment and Infantry Abilities, which are synonymous with the Perks in "Call of Duty."

Time is one of the omnipresent aspects of video gaming that has been around since the glory days of the NES, but very few games have worked it in as a malleable aspect of the gameplay. Characters die when the developer-designated countdown timer runs out, and other games offer different rewards for finishing in as little time as possible. However, until Aksys Games' latest PSP release, "Jikandia: The Timeless Land," no game has tried to bridge that gap by allowing the player the tools to decide whether they want to beat the game quickly or easily.

It is very unlikely that any of you were expecting Rockstar to deliver a short game in "L.A. Noire," but nothing had previously been said about the final game's length. Until now. The New York City-based developer behind the hits "Grand Theft Auto 4" and "Red Dead Redemption" confirmed a number during a closed doors preview at PAX East this past weekend: 25 to 30 hours.

As big as Hasbro's "Transformers" franchise was in the 1980s, the popularity of the toy line and its related spin-off properties has reached new heights in recent years thanks to the financial success of the two Michael Bay films and, more recently, the Activision game "Transformers: War for Cybertron." Now there's another game coming in addition to the one pegged to Bay's summer threequel, "Transformers: Dark of the Moon." The untitled 2012 release, which is in the hands of "RuneScape" developer Jagex Limited, is unsurprisingly (and quite awesomely) an online game.

WWE games have always been surprisingly simulation-heavy, with intricate fighting combos and techniques. "WWE All Stars" goes in a different direction entirely, ramping up the action of WWE with more outlandish moves and over-the-top character models.
The core of the game focuses on the battle between modern-day WWE stars and stars of years past. For example, you could have Andre the Giant battling The Rock or Bret Hart taking on Rey Mysterio.
