"Mass Effect 2" has had a good run, but today it's ongoing story comes to a close as BioWare closes the final chapter on it's second game in a planned trilogy with the release of the DLC pack "Arrival." If you haven't finished the main story, then just stop reading right here. Spoilers lie ahead. For everyone else, hit the jump to check out the launch trailer.
Our galaxy is in pretty dire straights at the close of the main story in "Mass Effect 2." The Reaper invasion has been repelled, but the specter of another coming invasion looms heavy over all. Commander Shepard may have won the battle at the remote Collector station, but the war is far from over.
While the game ends with a scene showing an incoming Reaper fleet, "Arrival" really serves to set the stage for what happens next as we lead into "Mass Effect 3." Previews so far have revealed that the DLC is a solo adventure for Shepard in which s/he is dispatched to rescue Dr. Kenson, an undercover operative, from a group of nasty Batarians. While the story won't bridge into "ME3" -- you can actually access the DLC before the main story is completed -- it will offer some hints about the nightmare that is to come when the Reapers arrive on our galactic doorstep.
"Arrival" marks the last of the "ME2" DLC offerings, as the BioWare dev team shifts their focus to polishing off "ME3" for its planned holiday 2011 release. This final DLC pack will have to tide you over until then; you can get it today on Xbox Live Marketplace or PlayStation Network for 560 MS Points or $7, respectively.
