Kratos Highlighted In The New 'Mortal Kombat' Trailer

Posted 3/24/11 5:54 pm EST by Adam Rosenberg in News, PS3, Video

"Mortal Kombat" may be taking things back to basics, but developer NetherRealm Studios isn't about to leave fighters completely without new toys to play with. The one that has arguably received the most attention is guest starring fighter Kratos, the ever-angry protagonist of Sony's "God of War." He'll only be available in the PlayStation 3 version of the game of course, but a newly released trailer does its best to sell you multi-console owners on the glories of playing as an ashy Spartan warrior.

This is about as straightforward as a trailer gets. "Mortal Kombat" features Kratos. Kratos has an array of magical tools and abilities, as "God of War" fans know quite well. Here's a look at all of those tools and abilities in action, tearing apart a variety of "MK" fighters. I especially like the x-ray moment in which you watch the blades enter the torso. Sweet. The only letdown is you don't get a glimpse of his fatalities, though I wouldn't count out some head-twisting awesomesauce.

Kratos was first confirmed for his "MK" appearance in December of last year, prompting an awesomely colorful response from "God of War" creator David Jaffe. He unfortunately won't appear in the game's story mode, but you'll be able to use him in Vs. mode and I wouldn't be surprised if he puts in a Challenge Tower appearance as well.

"Mortal Kombat" is coming to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles on April 19, though the latter is the version you want if Kratos is your boy.
