"Dead Island" features zombies, and therefore it will be good. That's simple math. It also happens to be an open-world game played from a first-person perspective with co-op support for up to four. Like "Left 4 Dead," there will be "special" boss-type zombies that present a greater threat than your average shambler, though exactly what form they'll take hasn't yet been revealed. Deep Silver released a handful of new images from the Techland-developed game today, one of which offers our first glimpse at what may well be a tougher type of zombie. It certainly looks tougher.
As you can see in the image above, this particular fellow is in heavy restraints. A zombie that can't bite may not seem like much of a threat, though something tells me that a straitjacket and muzzle aren't going to keep this sucker at bay for long. There's always the chance that he's actually human -- a freakishly oversized human -- but those read eyes seem like a dead giveaway for zombie-itis.

The other two images aren't nearly as revealing, though they do offer additional looks at the game's environments. "Dead Island" is set on a tropical resort island that has been overrun by a zombie outbreak and, as you can see in one of the new pics, things get a little bit bloody. Interestingly, there is no sign of life (or un-life) in either of the environment shots. I wonder where all the zombies might be hiding....
"Dead Island" is set for release later this year on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows platforms.
