If there's one thing we've learned so far about "Battlefield 3" that can't be argued, it's that the game looks stunningly gorgeous. DICE's Frostbite 2 engine can really do some beautiful things with death and destruction. You see a little bit of the latter in the developer's latest episode of "Fault Lines" gameplay previews, entitled "Good Effect On Target."
We unfortunately can't embed the video because there are a couple of F-bomb drops alongside the skyscraper-destroying rocket-propelled grenade strike. You should go and check it out for yourself though.
Electronic Arts provides some backstory to set the scene: "Follow our squad of U.S. Marines as they move to the rooftops to eliminate an enemy sniper in an abandoned hotel. This in-game footage from 'Battlefield 3' shows off the ANT animation technology from EA Tech in all its glory, with a climactic ending that speaks volumes of how the Frostbite 2 engine handles destruction."
Okay, not much backstory. But how much do you really need for a clip like this? The headline pretty much says it all: sniper vs. RPG. Can you guess who wins?
This new clip, like the last one, features footage shown during recent demos EA did during and immediately before the 2011 Game Developer's Conference held earlier this month. Unfortunately, the new Fault Lines episode cuts short before you get to witness the full effect of a rocket-propelled grenade blast striking a multi-story building. Needless to say, it is impressive.
"Battlefield 3" is coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows platforms later this year.
