Last night, the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences held its 14th annual Interactive Achievement Awards in Las Vegas. They're a little like the Spike TV Video Game Awards, only with more respect and less misfired attempts at entertaining the gaming community. The top prize of the night, Game of the Year, went to BioWare's "Mass Effect 2," though Rockstar Games' "Red Dead Redemption" had a better overall showing, with five awards earned.

You may recall that a few weeks ago, I recommended that you download "Desktop Dungeons." In case its nomination for the grand prize at the Independent Games Festival wasn't enough, I said it was really awesome, which places the score at two to zero in favor. For a brief rundown on what "Desktop Dungeons" is all about you can read that post or head to the official site. But you're better off playing it. (After all, it's free.)

Prepare to relive the saga of street brawlers Billy and Jimmy on a smaller screen than ever before. A newly enhanced version of coin-op arcade classic "Double Dragon" is coming soon to iOS platforms -- that means you too now, Verizon-folk! -- from publisher Aksys Games and developer Brizo Entertainment. If you actually need any more convincing than that, you can find some details after the jump.

In its latest attempt to soothe gamers frothing at the mouth for more "Elder Scrolls" and incensed over having to wait another nine months before playing it, Bethesda Softworks today released a new batch of concept art for "The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim." There's not much that's new if you've been keeping on top of the latest updates on the game, but it'll hardly matter once you lose yourself in the swirl of otherworldly images.

Ah, "Super Meat Boy." The insanely-hard 2D platformer that just keeps on giving. When the game launched on XBLA last fall, it came with a nifty feature called "Teh Internetz." Basically it was a loophole which allowed Team Meat to update the game with new levels without having to go through Microsoft's expensive and stringent approval process. We've seen a couple of these add-on chapters in the game already, including one which limited players to only playing as Gish, the sticky unlockable ball of goo. Two more chapters are in the works and may be released as soon as next week.

Developer Pop Quiz is a weekly interview series in which we ask developers from around the industry the same 10 questions and post their responses.
Eden Games' Studio Manager, David Nadal, has seen the developer go through many changes since the late 90s release of "V-Rally." They've come a long way, culminating with this week's release of the Massively Open Online Racing game, and follow up to one of the Xbox 360's best budget titles, "Test Drive Unlimited 2." Find out more about the man behind the studio in this week's Developer Pop Quiz.

Outlook had crashed when I arrived at the computer this morning and I knew why the moment it reloaded and new e-mail came through. A 2K Games press release detailing all of the over-the-top goodies fans can expect from the just-announced "Duke Nukem Forever" Balls of Steel Edition clearly caused some kind of short circuit with its generous helpings of awesome.

Activision officially canceled work on the "Guitar Hero" series earlier this week in the aftermath of its lower-than-expected Q1 earnings and spurred on by the waning popularity of rhythm-based gaming franchises. CEO Bobby Kotick took to the TV airwaves to address the past week's news and in the process spoke a little bit about Activision's ongoing plans for the "Call of Duty" franchise.

David O. Russell. Super-talented filmmaker. "Three Kings" is a hoot. "Flirting With Disaster" too. And everyone's talking about "The Fighter" this year. Next up he's got an adaptation of the PlayStation 3-exclusive "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" from Naughty Dog. Unfortunately, based on comments he made in a recent interview, Russell doesn't appear to have the faintest idea of what the game is about.

Yesterday's surprise news that Activision would be canceling any future "Guitar Hero" projects didn't exactly bode well for the already-flagging rhythm game genre. In terms of competition, it seems the only major player still standing in the genre is Harmonix, the developer behind the "Rock Band" franchise (which was formally owned by MTV parent company, Viacom). The news has certainly made people wonder whether "Rock Band" was destined for the same star-crossed fate. The company released a statement today to clarify where things stand.
