Despite all that, as we learned yesterday, "World of Goo" has been thriving on the iPad. The reason? It's freakin' excellent. And for today only, it's a dollar.

Yesterday's earnings report from Activision was filled with surprises, not the least of which was the cancellation of all future "Guitar Hero" projects. But also in the report was news that Activision was working on a "best-in-class online community, exclusive content and a suite of services for our Call of Duty fans to supercharge the online gaming experience like never before," according to Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg. batman arkham city

"Batman: Arkham City," the sequel to Rocksteady Games' award-winning 2009 hit "Batman: Arkham Asylum" is coming later this year with a new story in which Arkham Asylum has fallen, prompting the warden-turned-mayor to wall off a Gotham neighborhood and establish it as a home for the incarcerated. There's obviously a pretty juicy story connecting the events since the end of the previous game to the coming sequel, a story which will be explored in a comic book miniseries from DC Comics.

The news was delivered in Activision's earnings release, which also stated that "True Crime: Hong Kong" would also be cancelled. Layoffs have been reported at United Front Games, the developer behind "True Crime," as well as Vicarious Visions, the developer responsible for the Wii version of "Warriors of Rock."

torchlight 2

Soon, very soon now, Xbox Live Arcade gamers are going to know the joys of Runic Games' "Torchlight," a brazen "Diablo" clone. But is it really a clone if you've got "Diablo" co-designers Max Schaefer and Erich Schaefer leading development? You ponder that while I go cry in a corner. For alas, the coming release of "Torchlight 2" has been pushed back into summer of this year.
