If you haven't finished "Dead Space 2" yet, it's probably because the thing is so intense that it's impossible to sit and play for more than two hours at a time. Well it's time to get cracking, because the two-chapter single-player DLC add-on "Dead Space 2: Severed" is now officially dated for a March 1 release.
"Severed" stars "Dead Space: Extraction" protagonist Gabe Weller in his own Necromorph-stomping adventure aboard The Sprawl space station. He's actually a security officer there, so he starts off the DLC with an upgraded Pulse Rifle and a uniquely skinned suit. The release date press release also confirmed the return of a Necromorph from the original "Dead Space," the Twitcher. You probably cursed at those fellows once or twice.
There's also a new trailer for "Severed." You get a glimpse of Weller and his spiffy security suit, as well his old "Extraction" pal Lexine Murdock, who seems quite terrified. Almost like there are limb-flailing alien zombie things coming after her.
March 1 is a good time to put this release out there. The big spring games still aren't here yet and "Dead Space 2" is still fresh in the minds of gamers. Even if "Severed" does absolutely nothing to improve on or tweak what we've come to expect from the gameplay in the series, two more chapters of tension-filled strategic dismemberment is hard to say no to. Look for "Dead Space 2: Severed" for download on March 1 worldwide. In North America the pack will cost you 560 MS Points on Xbox Live Marketplace or $6.99 on the PlayStation Network store.
