After waiting way too long for a respectable "NBA Jam" sequel, EA's effort last year finally managed to meet expectations. The game captured all the low-fi, arcade-style charm of the original series while updating it with new players and features. After making the rounds on Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii, EA is turning its sites to the iPhone, as they're in the midst of prepping a version of "NBA Jam" specifically for Apple's device.
According to TouchArcade, "NBA Jam" on iPhone will feature all 30 NBA teams, as well as unlockable all-star players. Because of licensing, you shouldn't expect the roster to change all that much from the console version. As you can see from the above shot, the secret, unlockable characters will make an appearance, as well.
EA has also released a brief gameplay video, showing how the controls will work on the iPhone. As you can see, it's a rather elegant way to meld swipes with buttons, allowing you to hold down boost and swipe in the direction of the action you want to take.
Details remain scarce on the remaining features, but we do know that it won't just feature quick play matches. The campaign mode from the console version will return as the primary way to unlock new players.
The biggest question remaining, however, is whether "NBA Jam" on iPhone will feature multiplayer. It would seem like a huge mistake to make the game a strictly solo affair, but who knows. In an ideal world, it'll feature WiFi multiplayer, using Game Center, but even local multiplayer would be enough of a reason to sneak in a few games while waiting in line at the movies.
Price and release date remains TBD, but we'll update you when we know more.
