As "Marvel vs. Capcom 3" nears release, we already know that two characters, Jill Valentine and Shuma Gorath, will be strictly available as DLC. It seems the pair won't be the only content coming to the game after release, though. Capcom revealed a surprising new feature called "Shadow Mode" which will be released as DLC and will allow players to battle against AI fighters based on real-world "MvC 3" experts.
Although the description is brief, we do know that Shadow Mode consists of a selection of custom-made AI combatants, based off of real-world players. For example, the first pack, which will release in March, allows players to do battle with an AI based on the game's producer, Ryota Niitsuma, in addition to Assistant Producer, Akihito Kadowaki.
So how does this work in actual gameplay? Well, let's say Niitsuma-san's style is to use Ryu at range with a lot of fireball attacks. In that case, the shadow AI would follow that same technique, whereas the normal AI might mix things up a bit more. It's all in an effort to get players up to speed before they hop online and get absolutely devastated.
It's a pretty innovative idea, basing AI on real players. I'm not sure it's innovative-enough to warrant an actual price tag, so here's hoping Shadow Mode is released for free or, at the very least, packed in with alternate costumes or something with a bit more meet. I mean, I want to get crushed by Diago as much as the next guy, but is it really worth $3? That's debatable.
