"Chrono Trigger" is widely hailed as one of the best -- if not the best -- RPG of the 16-bit generation, largely because it is... well... kinda awesome. The world-saving adventures of Crono and his fellow time-travelers are instantly captivating, reaching past the primitive visuals of the time to deliver an affecting story that is packed with fun gameplay. A sequel followed in 2000, "Chrono Cross," and it was equally well-received. There's been nothing since though, which brings us to "Crimson Skies," a fanmade project whose aim to continue the story has been underway since 2004 and which is now available online for you to check out.

Bulletstorm

For all the attention the ridiculous kills in "Bulletstorm" have been getting, people often forget who the people are behind the exploding butt plates. As it happens, all of that pain is being heaped onto a veritable family tree of identical twins, as all of the standard enemies in "Bulletstorm" are based off of a single, bald gentleman. That's him in the screenshot up top...times three. But why are we just realizing this now? Because the developer of the game, People Can Fly, are very good about disguising that bald gentleman.

There been a flurry of activity in the past week on the "Final Fantasy" front. First, the "Final Fantasy XIII-2" registered, apparently for Square-Enix. Then just this morning, "Final Fantasy XIII-2" was formally announced for an Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in Japan, a direct sequel to last year's "Final Fantasy XIII." Mere hours later, an update on the PlayStation Blog confirmed the sequel, which will feature an "evolved" battle system from last year's game, and its PS3 release "next winter."

We learned on the first business day of 2011 of an upcoming "Gears of War" collection of some kind with an expected February release date, referred to simply as "Gears of War Ultimate." Microsoft revealed in a press release that the pack, actually called "Gears of War Triple Pack," will be bowing on February 15 with a $30 price tag to get you in the mood for "Gears of War 3," which arrives in stores later this year.

Call of Duty: Black Ops

Since it's the most popular online game on consoles right now, any new content for "Call of Duty: Black Ops" is sort of a big deal. We've known for some time that the first map pack for the game, titled First Strike, would be arriving in February, but a new trailer from Activision and Treyarch gave us a more in-depth look at what we can expect for our 1200 Microsoft points.

Last week brought the first gameplay details on "The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim," from Game Informer's February cover story on the much-anticipated 11/11/11 release. Now they've got a feature up running through the strengths of Bethesda Softworks' new Creation Engine, which will be used in the game, in advance of the magazine hitting newsstands. Take note, modders: these details offer hints of the sort of tools you'll be working with in building a more perfect game for us PC users.

Hyperdimension Neptunia

NIS America has become known as one of the best publishers to go to for a niche JRPG, ever since they started releasing games in 2003. They're released some beloved games over the years like "GrimGrimoire," "Holy Invasion Of Privacy, Badman! What Did I Do To Deserve This?" and the "Disgaea" series, but their upcoming title, a seemingly run-of-the-mill JRPG in line with many of NIS' other releases, "Hyperdimension Neptunia" seems to have a truly unique angle to it. As online gaming communities grow in both size and number, fans face the challenge of getting the right game for the right system to ensure that they've got some friends to play with. Steam overseer and "Portal" developer Valve is aware of this fact, and they're taking steps to widen the opportunities for online play in the PlayStation 3 release of their upcoming sequel, "Portal 2."

A horde of gaming journalists gathered in New York City today, where THQ Core Games boss Danny Bilson and his team were on hand to show off the multiplayer component in the company's Kaos Studios-developed upcoming new IP "Homefront," which hits stores on March 8. Multiplayer's glorious leader Russ Frushtick will surely be bringing you word on how that went down soon enough, but the event also brought with it the reveal of some exciting news for the Xbox Live contingent of future "Homefront" players: timed-exclusive DLC.

Jordan Mechner is a well-known name these days thanks to the success of his "Prince of Persia" series. Serious old-school PC gamers remember him for more than just spinning a story about a prince's adventures through spikes and pressure plates however. Many would argue that the 1997 release "The Last Express" is Mechner's greatest work, an adventure game that is notable for unfolding in accelerated real-time. Its been tough to find in recent years, but no longer! And you've got digital distributor DotEmu to thank for it.
