"StarCraft 2" might not (yet) be the professional gaming sensation that its 10-year-old-plus predecessor is, but it is still a fantastic real-time strategy game. One of the best out there, with a trio of perfectly balanced military factions, a robust multiplayer community on Battle.net and a single-player campaign which introduces players to the game's intricacies in clever and fun ways. Top-notch strategy.

So when I first read that developer Blizzard was officially releasing mods that turned their masterwork into a cooking game, a puzzle game and a tower defense game, I thought it was a joke.

All of those PSP2 rumors are sure heating up. And if Sony's past track record with tech releases and rumors is any indication, at least some of what we're hearing is true. It was only yesterday that we heard from one Japanese newspaper, reporting that the device will include a touch-sensitive OLED screen and 3G connectivity. Now 2ch, Japan's largest online forum, is home to what is purported to be an actual picture of the thing, which you can see above.

The launch window line-up for the Nintendo 3DS, which runs from late March to early June, is scheduled to include over 30 games. Just three of those games will be from Nintendo ("Steel Diver," "Nintendogs + Cats," "Pilotwings Resort"), which is a bit surprising given how much launch support Nintendo has given to their hardware in the past. The biggest omissions are probably "Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D" and "Kid Icarus: Uprising," two of the more promising games I saw at Nintendo's 3DS unveiling last week.

While speaking with Reggie Fils-Aime, the President and COO of Nintendo of America, I asked him why those big, franchise games hadn't made it into the launch line-up for the 3DS.

With all of the recent talk of "Final Fantasy XIII-2" and "Final Fantasy Type-0," you might be starting to worry that Square-Enix has forgotten about -- or worse, shelved -- the originally announced sibling game to 2009's "Final Fantasy XIII," "Final Fantasy Versus XIII." I'll give you a minute to sort through the ridiculous number of finals and fantasies referenced above. Now for the good news: "Versus XIII" is still very much in development, as revealed in a new interview with the game's director and real-world hero of the series, Tetsuya Nomura.

Dead Space 2

It's strange when you think that the Dead Space franchise was born around the concept of cutting the limbs off your enemies. After three games, an animated film, a comic book and a full-length novel, though, it's clear that there's enough meat on those bones. "Dead Space 2" is the latest installment for the franchise, and it manages to best the first game by a large margin. Had it released a month earlier, it would likely make my list of top 5 games of 2010. As it is, though, it's an early indication that 2011 is off to a great start.

The first details on "Silent Hill: Downpour" emerged a few weeks ago, which is cause for joyful alarm. Joy, because... well... "Silent Hill" rules. And alarm should be fairly self-evident if you've ever played any of the past games in the series. Sleepless nights are ahead once again. Now we know a little more about the game, thanks to a bunch of newly released screens and the planned release window, which is currently set for Q3 (July-September) of this year.

Strap in, console fans: get ready to live the dream. Since the dawn of the PC vs. console gaming wars, the big one-up computer users have had over their gamepad-wielding brethren is the potential for expansion offered by the modding community. User-generated content is an increasingly important bullet-point to have on your upcoming game's press release, and we're seeing it more and more. This is a first though: Valve's Chet Faliszek confirmed that "Portal 2" will support user-created levels for all three platforms, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC/Mac.
