"Dead Space 2" is barely out in stores, which means it's a perfect time to start daydreaming about possible DLC. Really though... why ponder the possibilities when you can learn the facts right here? Electronic Arts announced today that Visceral Games is busily prepping "Dead Space 2: Severed," which adds two chapters to the single player game telling a story that runs parallel to Isaac Clarke's own adventures through The Sprawl.
"Severed" features the return of "Dead Space Extraction" stars Gabe Weller and Lexine Murdock. Players will take control of Weller -- sorry folks, we'll have to wait until "Dead Space 3" arrives for co-op play, it seems -- as he guides himself and his pal Murdock to safety through an advancing horde of slavering necromorphs. Should be fun.
No release date is revealed, but EA's press release says that the DLC is "coming soon" to Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network. For purchase, of course. No launch day freebies on this one. "Dead Space 2" does include one of EA's Online Pass codes, which you'll need in order to access the game's multiplayer features. If you happen to come across a used copy of the game, you can also buy yourself access for 800 MS points on XBL or $9.99 on PSN.
Also out today along with "Dead Space 2" is "Dead Space iOS," which looks as though it capably ports the 3-D presentation of the console and PC games to Apple's platform. I haven't gotten my fingers on it yet, but hopefully soon. Portable "Dead Space" is nothing to laugh at. Both because it's awesome and also because it will probably still scare the crap out of you.
