Amid all of the game debuts at the VGA's on Saturday, Bethesda Softworks got a hold of the spotlight for a few seconds to announce the next chapter in their Elder Scrolls series, and though the teaser they've released offers a great deal more in the way of story notes than it does eye candy, someone has set the record straight to say that "The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim" will be built with an all-new game engine.

Frank West and Chuck Greene's fated post-"Dead Rising 2" meeting and adventure into the Phenotrans Facility for "Dead Rising 2: Case West" received a December commitment from Capcom a few weeks ago, but they've gone ahead and locked the game in for a more accurate launch date on December 27 as of today. The standalone adventure with human and computer-assisted co-op options will squeeze into a slot on the Xbox Live Marketplace before the end of the year, so if an online zombie-hunting fest is your idea of a rockin' New Year's Eve, it will be here in time to serve your needs.

Kratos' PlayStation 3-exclusive appearance in "Mortal Kombat" beat a press release from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment into the news last week, but an official statement from WBIE and Sony did confirm his presence and an April 2011 release window for the game, as details on special editions and retailer-specific pre-order bonuses have also come to light.

THQ's pledge to announce their new Volition-made Guillermo del Toro game at the VGA's over the weekend resulted in a teaser bearing the title "inSANE" and the year 2013. Previously, THQ had been sheepish about publicly associating themselves with del Toro, but that's all changed now, and they've even confirmed that "inSANE" will become a full trilogy.

Electronic Arts dated "Mass Effect 2" for the PlayStation 3 last week, but users will have to substitute an interactive comic for "ME1" if they want to impact the trilogy's web of decisions and alterable outcomes. It turns out that this won't be an issue for "ME2" players when the third chapter arrives at the end of of 2011, however. A brief description of "Mass Effect 3" leaked out over EA's online store last week, and a trailer on the VGA's Saturday confirmed what it said; now, EA's brought their evolving announcement full circle with confirmation that "ME3" will launch "simultaneously" on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC for the 2011 holiday season.

If this was two years ago, you would most likely not have heard of mobile developer ngmoco:), but since they appeared on the scene they have made quite a name for themselves releasing some of the most loved digital crack on the iOS and Android platforms. With games like "Rolando," "We Rule," and "Topple" under their belts, they have become one of the premiere mobile developers in the country. This week's Developer Pop Quiz focuses on one of the company's 140 employees, Live Producer Caryl Shaw, who has had a hand in some of the biggest games that the company has released.

As is par for the course with the Video Game Awards, 2010's edition was filled with new trailers for games that are likely to keep you up at night. While not all of the games were a total surprise, we were offered our first glimpses at the titles and the takeaway was that 2011 will be kind to us. You can watch all of the VGA 2010 trailers below. Don't blame us if you're left wanting to build a time machine so their releases come a bit sooner.
