Weird Japanese-to-English translations hold a proud place in video game history. From such meme-tastic classics as "All your base are belong to us" in "Zero Wing" to "A winner is you" from "Pro Wrestling," language hasn't always been able to make a clean jump across cultures. I'm guessing that a similar translation outsourcing process must have been behind some "Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition" instructions that were captured by a quick-camera'd Twitter user.
Phrases such as "Guird by saving attack" and "Chuse and attack" show up in an on-cabinet visual aid seen by Mr. Alex Valle (via EventHubs.com).
While rumors a few weeks ago indicated that Evil Ryu and "Oni Akuma" might be showing up in this game, I don't think anyone expected combs to play as vital a role as these messages seem to indicate.
Players are not only encouraged to "Shoot special comb!" but also told that they "Can cancel attack by saving make your comb!" It's always more fun when typos make sense in a proper grammatical context, but things unfortunately don't work out like that in every case.
Could this mean that future Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 DLC releases will include "comb" achievements and reward players by "chusing" wisely? At this point, I think Capcom should just role with it and embrace what they've apparently already let out into the world.
What's your favorite typo from the "SSF4" machine? Are you glad to see that Capcom has added some combs to the game's arcade edition? Share your reactions with us in the comment section below.
