"Demon's Souls" inspired the "Witcher 2" devs to up the difficulty level of their "Insane" mode, and it turns out the game has also inspired its own makers to increase the lifespan of their servers. Although Atlas had previously committed to supporting, powering and maintaining their machines until next March, they extended that promise today to cover the next ten months, making October 6, 2011 the earliest potential shutdown date now.
"We will support the online servers for Demon's Souls as long as we possibly can, and we'll be as transparent about the entire process as possible, hence us constantly updating folks as to what to expect," Atlus manager of PR and sales Aram Jabbari said in a press release.
"Demon's Souls" will be two years old next fall, and it's already a PS3 Greatest Hits title, so that'll still be a good run, even if support ends next year.
Additionally, Atlus will be running a promotion from December 20 into the beginning of 2011 called Pure White World Tendency. I'm not totally clear on what that involves, but they say it will make the "brutally addicting world of Boletaria" more accomodating to new players "while also offering hardcore gamers access to the many secrets and otherwise inaccessible paths unlocked by the tendency shift." In other words, they want to make everything easier for everybody? Whatever the case may be, your "Demon's Souls" habit will be safe in 2011.
