Rage Mutant Bash TV

id Software really, really wants to bring first person shooters to the iPhone. They've already released three of them, not counting their first-person RPG spin-offs, and now they've brought their new IP, "RAGE" to the platform in the form of "Mutant Bash TV." It's a remarkable visual feat, but I'm still getting the impression that id is trying to shoehorn a genre onto a platform that simply can't handle it.

Walmart Black Friday

If you haven't made peace with the fact that Black Friday is going to be here in a week, you're running out of time. The good news from Walmart's post-Thanksgiving Day flyer, however, is that some of their best video game-related deals will be taking place exclusively on Walmart.com and not showing up in stores. They'll have some price-slashing going on on the ground, to, though, including a couple of bundle prices that keep pace with Sears and a few significant game-by-game deals.

Mega Man Online

Don't confuse "Mega Man Online" with "Mega Man Universe." They're two very different games, and you'll be able to tell that much by comparing any of their gameplay videos that have been floating around. For instance, "Online" is a Korean-market game that's set in the Mega Man X universe and "Universe" is not — hence the new trailer and the appearance of Sting Chameleon that have emerged in the wake of Korea's G-Star games conference.

When you think Rockstar Games, you think "Grand Theft Auto." Or maybe "Red Dead Redemption." Games where strong stories and writing take a backseat to big explosions and gun battles. The company's next game, "LA Noire" flips that concept on its head, emphasizing dialog, voice acting and story progression over everything else. It's slow-paced, thought-provoking and may just be too smart for its own good.

Michael Jackson The Experience

All over the exclusive Michael Jackson gloves in the world won't be of much use to you without music to move them to. That's not an issue with "Michael Jackson: The Experience" after today, though, because Ubisoft has shared the complete lists of MJ tunes that are slated for playability when it comes out for the Wii, PSP and Nintendo DS on November 25 and the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 with Move and Kinect support in early 2011.

Dreamcast Collection

2010 has been a renaissance year for Dreamcast games. The Sega system's life after death has already produced "Crazy Taxi" and "Sonic Adventure" releases for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation Network, and the momentum may spill over into 2011 if there was anything to a GameStop listing for a so-called "Dreamcast Collection."

It's that time of year again. Starting next week, the nation will be inundated by the holiday spirit, and you've got to start thinking about what to buy your friend, neighbor or significant other. If they're a gamer and you're not, the prospect might be tricky, so I thought I'd give you some suggestions to set you on the right path.

Since you don't want to reveal your forthcoming gift, I'm also including a subtle question to ask the giftee before you make your purchase to confirm that it is indeed the right game for them. I do this because I care.

Rage iPhone

John Carmack has been talking about doing something "Rage"-oriented on the iPhone for quite awhile, and this year at QuakeCon he said that he wanted to have a "Rage" game out before 2010 ended. Well, he seems to have reached his goal, as id Software's new FPS has already slipped into the Australian App Store Store in both regular and HD versions and Carmack predicted that it would be on sale by Thursday.

uDraw GameTablet

THQ have gone way out on a limb for their latest series of releases, more so than most publishers outside of the rhythm game genre. This holiday season THQ is attempting to release their own hardware, the uDraw GameTablet, along with three pieces of software dedicated taking advantage of its unique feature set. However, it's been 18 years since a console has "successfully" attempted to offer gamers an artistic outlet alongside a piece of hardware that allows them to be creative.

Homefront

THQ and Kaos Studios felt confident enough in their upcoming domestic warfare FPS "Homefront" to show off an alpha build a few weeks ago, and now they've reached a point where they're willing to commit to a release date. The race to claim 2011 calendar dates has been lively this week, with "The Witcher 2" and "Marvel vs. Capcom 3" both locking down retail appointments. THQ likes March, though, and that's when they would like for "Homefront" to ship.
