Gatling Gears

A couple of Guerrilla Games co-founders found themselves and their new studio Vanguard Games in EA's good graces this week as their new title "Gatling Gears" was announced along with Trapdoor's "Warp" as a downloadable release for Spring 2011. The games will appear on Xbox Live, the PlayStation Network and PC's, thanks to EA's publishing help.

The Fight

Fighting games have been around for ages, but it was really Capcom's "Street Fighter 2" that brought head-to-head, one-on-one brawling to the masses, and since then very little has actually changed in the genre outside of the advent of 3D. Great games have come and gone, but it's a style of game that doesn't thrive on innovation. However, with the advent of motion controllers, being able to virtually punch you friends in the face by actually swinging your fist seemed like an inevitability, and Sony Playstation's Move enabled game "The Fight: Lights Out" has brought that concept to fruition.

LittleBigPlanet spin-off

The "LittleBigPlanet 2" team has been putting in extra hours and months to get their game out since it was delayed into 2011. The series may have another iron in the fire, though, and the phantom project is called "Sackboy's Prehistoric Moves."

Whatever the game is, the Australian Government has classified it as appropriate for general audiences, according to the country's online Classification Database (via Siliconera). It would be somewhat of a shocker if Sony was prepping a game with "Moves" in the title that wasn't going to be PlayStation Move-oriented with its controls, so the PlayStation 3 is a good guess for now in terms of where this Sackboy venture will be showing up.

"L.A. Noire" has been in development for a long, long time. We've been hearing about the title since 2004, but since then the game has gone through many changes, to the point were I don't think anyone outside of Rockstar is completely sure what sort of game it'll end up being. Thankfully today's trailer sheds a bit more light on the project, which appears to be as gritty as you'd expect from the makers of "Grand Theft Auto" and "Red Dead Redemption." You can check out the trailer up top.

Cuba Call of Duty Black Ops reaction

While Treyarch targeted its anger at "Call of Duty: Black Ops" glitch exploiters this week, the government down in Cuba took aim at the game's makers, calling their latest sequel "doubly perverse" for a mission that involves an assassination attempt on Fidel Castro (don't worry, no spoilers here beyond that) and corrupting North American youth. I guess Castro's role fighting zombies in the game's multiplayer zombie mode couldn't redeem it in their eyes.

NHL GameCenter PSN

Xbox Live chose ESPN as its sports programming partner this year, but the PlayStation Network seems to be taking a slightly different approach in a new arrangement with the NHL. The NHL already had an online option available via their NHL GameCenter service, but they've partnered up with the PSN folks to integrate that into the PlayStation 3 experience via an app for PlayStation Plus subscribers at no extra cost and a $10 charge for non-subscribers.

Madden NFL Footbal 3DS

EA appeared on Nintendo's list of third-party 3DS developers at E3 2010, and EA Sports intends to bring out their big franchise guns alongside Konami's "Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater" and Capcom's "Street Fighter 4" next year. With the 3DS not coming to America until March, "Madden NFL Football" won't be out in time for the Super Bowl, but EA has tagged it for the first half of 2011, so it should still be out before 2011 pre-season play begins.

Call of Duty Black Ops

Just like "Modern Warfare 2" before it, "Call of Duty: Black Ops" shipped with numerous multiplayer bugs that users are gradually finding, reporting and also exploiting. Treyarch's taking a hard line against everyone posting video evidence and attempting to become "Internet nerd famous," though; so said Treyarch design director David Vonderhaar.

Black Ops

If you're reading this, you're probably fiending for work/school to wrap up so you can head home and play more "Call of Duty: Black Ops." Well, next time you play, I wanted to call your attention to two changes that were made since the release of "Modern Warfare 2" that were minor and yet impacted the game big time. Adam Rosenberg discussed the vast majority of these changes in his review of "Black Ops", but in the interest of brevity, we can't always include every little detail in a review and I wanted to pull these out specifically.

STALKER TV pilot

GSC Game World's "STALKER" series descended from concepts in a sci-fi book and film, so it only makes sense that the Ukranian studio would want to try to push into one more medium with a TV series. They've taken up the initiative independently, though, and put together a pilot pitch. You'll need the subtitles to understand what's going on since it's all in Russian, but if you've already ventured into the disaster area left by a second Chernobyl catastrophe in "STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl" or GSC's more recent "STALKER: Call of Pripyat," you should be able to get the gist of what's happening.
