'Prince Of Persia: Trilogy HD' Coming To North America, Just Not On Blu-ray

Posted 11/15/10 4:00 pm EST by Brian Warmoth in News

Prince of Persia Trilogy HD

Just because that "Prince of Persia: Trilogy" HD collection on Blu-ray is exclusive to Europe doesn't mean that gamers in North America are getting left in the dust. We'll still get to swing scimitars optimized for 720p displays. We're just going to have to buy the games digitally.

"Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time," "Warrior Within" and "The Two Thrones" will each be made available in HD via the PlayStation Network for the North American market, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot explained during a conference call, according to a post on Kotaku. The Blu-ray package, however, is still a regional exclusive.

This is good news for 3-D TV-owning PoP fans, since the games represent more than 30 hours of gameplay that will jump off the screen a little more those with the right displays. The specific release date wasn't articulated, but the the Blu-ray collection hits Europe this week.

I think we all expected Ubisoft to do a North American release for their HD trilogy; it's too bad we won't have the option to grab it on disc, though. Maybe if you would have just purchased another few thousand copies of these games in their original incarnations, things would have turned out differently, but as it is, Europe has the exclusive to wave at us from across the ocean now, so we'll all have to deal with it.

Will you be satisfied with a digital release for the PoP trilogy? Would you prefer to own it on Blu-ray? Share your reactions with us in the comment section below.
