'STALKER' TV Series Pilot Produced By Games' Developers

Posted 11/10/10 2:22 pm EST by Brian Warmoth in News

STALKER TV pilot

GSC Game World's "STALKER" series descended from concepts in a sci-fi book and film, so it only makes sense that the Ukranian studio would want to try to push into one more medium with a TV series. They've taken up the initiative independently, though, and put together a pilot pitch. You'll need the subtitles to understand what's going on since it's all in Russian, but if you've already ventured into the disaster area left by a second Chernobyl catastrophe in "STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl" or GSC's more recent "STALKER: Call of Pripyat," you should be able to get the gist of what's happening.

Lots of very cranky Russian-speaking men with guns show up in the trailer full of clips that's been posted to YouTube. The project thus far has been completely self-funded, according to a report on Kotaku, and GSC is currently talking to both Russian and Ukranian TV networks about producing a full-on show.

The STALKER games have a lot in common with the "Fallout" universe, so it shouldn't be out of the question for GSC to find some international interest in licensing or distribution deals, assuming things in former Soviet Union markets work out.

As long as they leave out long walks across lifeless landscapes, there's a lot of potential for something worthwhile to come out of STALKER, but none of that shows up in this trailer, so it looks like they're headed in the right direction.

Would you tune into a TV show based on the STALKER games? Which characters and plot points would you like to see cross over in the adaptation? Share your reactions with us in the comment section below.
