Xbox.com update

Microsoft thinks you might want to do a few more things with Xbox.com, so they've opted to make their website disappear for a little while this Wednesday in order to integrate a new look and some upgrades. In addition to working in some Windows Phone 7 support and getting things to run smoothly for nine new regions that'll be getting Xbox Live in November, the site will start letting you do a lot more gaming-wise and with your avatar from the comfort of a web browser.

Fallout: New Vegas

Despite its post-apocalyptic setting, there's a sense of wonder in the "Fallout" games. A sense of freedom, that the horizon is your oyster and any interesting landmark in the distance is just waiting for you to explore its depths. "Fallout: New Vegas" manages to capture this sense of freedom rather well, and makes for a worthy addition to the franchise, albeit one somewhat marred by serious bugs.

Facebook games privacy breach

Some Facebook games may be doing a little more with their user relationships than users — or even Facebook — realized. A new Wall Street Journal report says the strictest privacy settings on the social network aren't enough when apps start reaching through loopholes and into browsers for identifying information about players and their social connections. Some of the most popular apps available on the network have been implicated in the report, including "FarmVille," "Texas HoldEm Poker" and "FrontierVille," though Facebook has said that will step up security measures in response.

Super Meat Boy

You should already know how I feel about "Super Meat Boy." If you don't, you should read my review. So yeah, I liked it a whole heck of a lot.

It seems the gents at Team Meat, Edmund and Tommy, will be featured in the upcoming documentary, "Indie Game: The Movie." A clip of the pair was released which discusses Tommy's insane attention to detail and how he's a perfectionist. You can watch it below:

Kindle game Triple Town

Amazon and EA have owned the fledgling Kindle games space up until this point, but indie developer Spry Fox has entered the ring as well now with their puzzle strategy game "Triple Town." The Kindle looks a lot like a Game Boy next it's e-reader competitor the iPad, but if you can program a lean, engaging game using Amazon's Kindle Development Kit and feel like entering a pretty barren market right now, it can be pitched as an attractive platform — at least that's how the head of the game's studio feels.

Civilization 5

Dedicated fans to the long-running "Civilization" franchise showed their passion by buying the deluxe edition of "Civ 5" when it launched a couple weeks ago. Included in the special edition was a playable civilization that was only accessible to folks who bought that version. But no more! Starting October 25, players will be able to buy the Babylonian Civilization Pack for $4.99, which adds those crazy Babylonians and their hanging gardens. In addition, 2K is giving players the brand new Mongols Civilization and Scenario Pack for the price of free.

Command and Conquer Visceral

Just as "Command and Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight" tried innovating its approach to piracy protection be requiring users to be constantly logged in to play, EA intends to innovate its approach to branding the series when their follow-up comes out.

The next "C&C" title is still "pretty far out," according to an interview that Visceral Games label general manager Nick Earl gave with Gamasutra. He explained that the move demonstrates how his label's "effort and energy at the moment is around building EA share in the action category... to achieve our mission of becoming number one inside of the action space."

Halo Reach level caps

Players who do things Bungie doesn't like during "Halo: Reach" online play get punished. Players who help them reach their goal of 117 million daily and weekly challenge completions, however, get rewarded — or at least they will once that mark gets eclipsed and level caps get lifted as a result. The milestone is expected to arrive sometime in November, at which point the glass ceiling for "Reach" titles will no longer stop at Lieutenant Colonel Grade C.

Fallout New Vegas

Fans of "Fallout" are undoubtedly looking forward to this week's release of "Fallout: New Vegas," but there may be some question as to which version to pick up. Microsoft is attempting to make that question a little easier to answer by securing a deal with Bethesda which would bring the first DLC pack for "New Vegas" exclusively to the Xbox 360 this holiday.

Kinect launch games

We already had a vague idea of what the first wave of Kinect-compatible games would look like, thanks to Amazon.com and E3. Microsoft's official list of November Kinect titles now includes 17 titles, and while you won't find "Star Wars Kinect" on it, you will see "Dance Central," "Kinectimals" and the title length king of the season "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 1 The Videogame."
