'Left 4 Dead' Bites Into Macs In Time For Halloween

Posted 10/28/10 4:37 pm EST by Brian Warmoth in Mac, News

Left 4 Dead Mac

"Left 4 Dead 2" made it onto Steam for Mac before the series' first installment, but Valve wanted to have both available in time for Halloween this week, and they've now achieved that goal. A list of Steam updates for the game, including tank speed alterations and voting options, casually slipped Mac support in at the top, but the "Left 4 Dead" blog got a little more festive with the news.

"You get 'Left 4 Dead' and all the previously released DLC for one low price," the Halloween page on L4D.com explains. "Plus, thanks to steam play you can play in the same games on the same servers as PC users."

It's nice that Valve picked treat over trick in following through with their Mac pledge. "L4D" didn't make it out in time to appear in our MacBook Air review, but it will be a playable option this weekend for Mac users between evening candy handouts.

"L4D2" turned out to be an excellent port for Mac, and the whole shared server strategy with PC users should earn Valve some community-building cred for the longterm. To lure you in, Valve's even kept the game's sale price at $9.99, with just $5 dollars more getting you both games with all their DLC fully loaded, which is a pretty darn enticing offer, and if your Mac's specs meet Steam's recommendations, I highly recommend giving it some consideration.

Are you happy to see "L4D" finally appear for Mac? Do you think you'll download load it for your machine? Share your responses with us in the comment section below.
