The "Angry Birds" team found a way to charge iPhone-owning gamers more money with their micro-transaction-toting Mighty Eagle in September. They're giving games away on Android devices now, however. The game's full Android release crashed RovioMobile's website and the site belonging to the Android edition's distributor GetJar.com, according to messages currently posted, which would be understandable given the title's success on other platforms.
"Selecting GetJar as the place to launch our first ever full Android version of Angry Birds was an obvious choice,” RovioMobile's self-proclaimed "Mighty Eagle" Peter Vesterbacka said in a statement. "GetJar's global reach and popularity as well as their unique App It! download service ensures that we reach a massive audience of fanatically loyal 'Angry Birds' addicts."
Rovio will attempt to profit off of "Angry Birds" via ads in its Android edition, according to a Mobile Entertainment report. Meanwhile, GetJar's just glad to have one of the biggest names in mobile gaming on their side, and touted a lot of recent growth for the Android game market.
"We've seen a significant spike in the submission of Android apps on GetJar, so we are quite pleased that Rovio, developers of the smoking hot game 'Angry Birds,' has come to us to offer the first full Android version of the game to our millions of consumers," GetJar CMO Patrick Mork said. "Android is one of our fastest growing platforms with downloads growing up to 500 percent since April of this year."
