DC Universe Online Pushed To 2011

DC Universe Online

By Kristen Shalbinski

A lot of gamers and comic book fans have been looking forward to the release of "DC Universe Online" this holiday season, but Sony Online Entertainment announced today that they will be delaying the release until early 2011.

John Smedley, the president of Sony Online Entertainment, explained the delay, saying, "As the game heads into external beta testing, this extra time will allow us to address community feedback in a meaningful way. When we get deeper into external beta, we'll be able to share more information regarding the new launch date."

For those of you who have pre-ordered the game or will do so before November 15, don’t worry, you will get access to the beta by November 30. Unfortunately this only applies to North American purchasers.

SOE also announced that they will be releasing a Collectors Edition of "DC Universe Online" for PS3 (again only for North America). It will have the same goodies that the PC Collector's Edition will have, including a Batman statue, the limited edition Art of "DC Universe Online" art book, the "DCUO" Legends Issue #0 comic book with a Jim Lee variant cover, the "DCUO" Prestige comic presentation of the DCUO back-story and the limited edition Jim Lee-drawn poster Version of the Issue #0 comic book variant cover. Good to see the console version getting as much love as the PC edition.

Hopefully the delay will be what this game needs to become the strong DC property everyone expects it to be. After all, remember when "Arkham Asylum" was pushed back? And that worked out pretty well, didn't it?
