'World Of WarCraft: Cataclysm' Release Date Confirmed

Posted 10/4/10 11:05 am EST by Russ Frushtick in Mac, News, PC

World of WarCraft

A lot of people take vacation in December, traveling to far off lands to get away from their everyday lives. Many of those people, it seems, will be spending the chilly months in the varied lands of Azeroth, and the next expansion pack for "World of WarCraft," "Cataclysm," is scheduled for release on December 7. How kind of Blizzard to wait until all the major holiday releases are out before dropping the "WoW" bomb on all of us!

First announced at BlizzCon last year, "World of WarCraft: Cataclysm" is a doozie of an expansion pack, with a handful of major features to entice "WoW" heads back into the fold:

- Two new playable races, goblins for the Horde and worgen for the Alliance.
- Level cap increase to 85
- New race/class combinations. Gnome priests!
- New secondary profession: archeology.
- Flying mounts throughout normal Azeroth zones.
- Classic zones remade with new quests and art to entice replayability

There's a ton of additional content to be found, but there's really no point in listing it all out, as you've likely already decided whether "Cataclysm" is for you. Either you're going to lock yourself in your room for 2 weeks, raiding mercilessly for that next armor tier, or you're going to shun those friends who do. Sadly the world has been divided into those who play "World of WarCraft" and those who don't.

Personally I've been clean for close to five years now, and I'm going to do my best to avoid the powerful pull of another "World of WarCraft" expansion. But you know what they say. Once an addict, always an addict.

"World of WarCraft: Cataclysm" will sell for $40 for the standard edition, or $80 for the super fancy Collector's Edition.
