Hideo Kojima predicted a 2011 launch for the 3DS port of "Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater" at Tokyo Game Show. Today, on the heels of other 3DS-related hardware and game announcements, Konami has narrowed that window to Spring 2011. The 3DS will be on sale in the U.S. in March, so that means you should have a little time to familiarize yourself with the handheld system's ins and outs before you introduce it to Solid Snake.
The news came accompanied by some new screenshots, according to a report on Andriasang. There's also a new trailer with some 3DS-made video over on the official "Snake Eater" Japanese website.
It's tough to gage too much from the new footage beyond the 3DS's graphics capabilities. You can kind of imagine what it's like moving through the thicket having snakes and other beasts wiggling around in your face though.
If the 3DS can make players feel at home playing a Metal Gear game, which as a portable experience right now is something gamers immediately associate with the PlayStation Portable, Sony could have some problems on their hands in 2011. However "Snake Eater" turns out in its new incarnation, it should be fascinating to sit back and watch what the competition does next, and Nintendo definitely has a bold vision for what they want to do with this platform.
