Did Valve disappoint you back in July when they introduced Versus Survival play and then continued on with their mutation cycle? If so, this week's Versus Survival redux should get your zombie-hunting guns standing at attention. The mode where teams alternate attempts at besting one another's survival times was described in the same language as it was before plus a few added words in an update that also included info about Part 3 of the Mike Oeming comic and the upcoming "Sacrifice" DLC.
"Rounds are only as long as you can keep beating each other's times," an L4D team rep explained in a post on the Left 4 Dead blog (via Joystiq). "There are no rushing Survivors. Infected spawns get quicker as the time increases."
As for the comic, Part 3 should be out tomorrow. Meanwhile, the October 5 release date for "The Sacrifice" means that there won't be a new mutation this week, though there will be one out in time to accompany the DLC next Tuesday.
Versus Survival is a great concept, especially if you find yourself constantly annoyed by those pesky survivors jumping in front of your guns, so it should make for a fun trip down memory before you're jettisoned forward into the new content in "Sacrifice." And besides, bringing a mutation back for a third go would just be crazy, so you'd better log in and play while the goings good this time. Otherwise, who know when you might get another chance?
